Mental Health Worker
Start Date: August 31, 2026
Location: Kenora, ON
Salary: $84,535.63 - $97,723.11
The Mental Health Worker is a key member of the Kenora Catholic District School Board's multidisciplinary support team. In alignment with a strength-based and trauma-informed approach, the successful candidate will provide direct and indirect mental health services to students, support school staff, and contribute to safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments.
The Mental Health Worker works collaboratively with school teams, families, and community partners to address barriers to student well-being, engagement, and academic success.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide individual and/or family counselling and support to students, as determined in collaboration with the Board's Mental Health Lead
- Identify, assess, and respond to sensitive and confidential student needs using professional judgment and evidence-informed practices
- Develop and facilitate small group interventions and deliver classroom-based mental health programming, as appropriate
- Collaborate with school administration, educators, and multidisciplinary team members to support student well-being and success
- Liaise with community agencies and external professionals to ensure coordinated, timely, and appropriate support for students and families
- Support students experiencing attendance, adjustment, social-emotional, and behavioural challenges through targeted intervention strategies
- Participate in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional learning
- Maintain accurate, secure, and up-to-date case documentation and reports in accordance with Board practices and professional standards
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), where applicable
- Respond to referrals by initiating appropriate processes that align with student needs and Board protocols
- Promote a positive, inclusive and culturally responsive school environment that supports the educational and personal growth of all students
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical practice in all aspects of the role.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Social Work degree (minimum requirement); Master's degree considered an asset
- Registration in good standing with a regulatory college recognized under the Psychotherapy Act. 2007
- Demonstrated experience working with children and youth, preferably within a school or community-based setting
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, family systems theory, and clinical assessment practices
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and mental health interventions for children and youth
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and professional standards applicable to the role
- Valid Ontario driver's license and access to reliable transportation
- Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education, including an understanding of the faith and moral principles of Catholicity
- Strong interpersonal skills, communication, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to manage a caseload, prioritize competing demands, and provide timely follow-up
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to strength-based, trauma-informed, and equity-focused practices
- Sound clinical judgement and problem-solving skills
