POSITION TITLE: Planner I
HOURS OF WORK: Full-Time, 35 hours per week, 2-year term
HOURLY RATE: $40.19 (2025)

Surrounded by mountain ranges and beautiful lakes and rivers, Smithers is a true northern gem. The town has a population of around 5,400 and is a service hub for the surrounding region comprised of approximately 15,000 people.
Residents enjoy four seasons of recreational activities; including a ski hill within half an hour of town, world-class fishing, backcountry and cross-country skiing, hunting, golfing and alpine trails for hiking and horseback riding, along with a lively music scene, boutique shopping, an art gallery and museum, an aquatic centre, and numerous family-friendly activities.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
The Planner provides professional Planning services for the Town of Smithers and works collaboratively with homeowners, developers, and the public to provide information on Town bylaws, processes, and initiatives. They will also provide advice and make recommendations to Council on a variety of projects and applications.
Qualifications Include
The Town of Smithers offers a competitive wage ($40.19/hr), comprehensive benefits package, Municipal Pension Plan, and 15 days of paid vacation for the first year worked.

Qualifications Include
- Undergraduate degree in Community Planning
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
