The Opportunity:

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Application / Design Engineer to join their team. This role plays a key part in supporting sales, product recommendations, and project execution within demanding industrial environments, including mining and wear applications. The successful candidate will be hands-on, collaborative, and comfortable working in a lean organization where flexibility and initiative are highly valued.

This position offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle — from concept development and estimating through manufacturing support, site visits, and customer interaction. The role also includes travel to customer and project sites to support measurements, project execution, technical sales support, and product implementation.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Develop new product concepts and practical, cost-effective solutions to support sales teams and distributors.
  • Create, update, and refine 2D and 3D product drawings using AutoCAD and Fusion.
  • Manage projects from concept through manufacturing, ensuring designs are manufacturable, technically sound, and financially viable.
  • Coordinate and manage projects with third parties, including estimating, scheduling, and ongoing project oversight.
  • Support sales efforts on complex bids through technical documentation, estimating, pricing coordination, and client presentations.
  • Conduct site visits for measurements, reverse engineering, project execution, and customer support.
  • Act as a liaison with manufacturing teams to support material selection, fabrication coordination, and installation considerations.
  • Perform QA/QC checks to ensure products meet quality and manufacturing specifications.
  • Modify and improve existing products based on customer feedback and operational performance.
  • Provide front-end technical support to distributors and customers regarding product capabilities and applications.
  • Identify new product opportunities and support continuous product improvement initiatives.
  • Assist with CNC programming and related manufacturing support activities as required.
  • Support the preparation and cleanup of production-ready design and manufacturing files.
  • Contribute to sales and marketing support materials including technical visuals and product documentation.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:

  • Proficiency in CAD software, including hands-on experience with Fusion for 3D modeling and AutoCAD for 2D drafting.
  • Strong practical understanding of engineering principles related to welding, fabrication, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with estimating, pricing coordination, and evaluating project financial viability.
  • Ability to travel to project sites for measurements, client meetings, project execution, and sales support.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams, fabricators, distributors, and clients.
  • Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, lean organization with a flexible, hands-on mindset.
  • Engineering Technician diploma or post-secondary education in Mechanical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • Experience in mining, wear applications, or other harsh industrial environments is considered a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, QA/QC procedures, and CNC programming is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret site scans, field measurements, and customer requirements into practical design solutions.
  • Outbound sales exposure or customer-facing technical support experience is considered an asset

Compensation Range: $90,000 – $110,000
