Position Summary

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada is seeking Avionics Apprentices to join our Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) operation in Calgary.

This is an entry-level opportunity for recent graduates of an avionics, aircraft maintenance, electrical, electronics, or related technical program who are looking to begin their career in aircraft maintenance. Previous industry work experience is not required.

The Avionics Apprentice will develop practical aircraft maintenance skills while working alongside experienced and licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineers (AMEs). The role supports the inspection, troubleshooting, removal, installation, testing, and maintenance of aircraft electrical and avionics systems in accordance with approved maintenance data, company procedures, and applicable Transport Canada requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist licensed AMEs with aircraft avionics and electrical maintenance activities.
• Perform assigned maintenance tasks under appropriate supervision and authorization.
• Assist with the removal, installation, inspection, and testing of avionics and electrical components.
• Assist with troubleshooting aircraft electrical and avionics system discrepancies.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, aircraft maintenance manuals, and technical documentation.
• Assist with wiring installation, termination, connector work, continuity checks, and related electrical maintenance activities.
• Use electrical test equipment, hand tools, and specialized aircraft maintenance tooling as required.
• Complete maintenance records and documentation accurately and in accordance with company procedures.
• Follow approved maintenance data, company procedures, safety requirements, and applicable Transport Canada regulations.
• Maintain proper tool control, component identification, and work-area cleanliness.
• Identify and communicate defects, discrepancies, and potential maintenance concerns to AMEs and supervisors.
• Participate in aircraft inspections, modifications, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities as required.
• Develop practical aircraft maintenance skills through hands-on training and mentorship.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and airworthiness throughout all maintenance activities.
  
  
  

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Avionics, Aircraft Maintenance, Electrical, Electronics, or related technical program is required.
• Previous work experience is not required; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Interest in pursuing or continuing an AME-E apprenticeship is preferred.
• Basic understanding of electrical, electronic, avionics, or aircraft systems.
• Ability to read and follow technical instructions, wiring diagrams, schematics, and procedures.
• Strong electrical/mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to safety, quality, and airworthiness.
• Ability to learn and perform maintenance tasks under the direction and supervision of licensed AMEs.
• Ability to work effectively in a hands-on aircraft maintenance environment.
  
  
  

Working Conditions

• Work is performed primarily in an aircraft maintenance/MRO environment.
• May involve working inside aircraft cabins, avionics bays, confined spaces, and at heights.
• May require lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and extended periods of standing.
• Must be willing to work assigned shifts and overtime as operational requirements dictate.
