Cowan Insurance Group is looking for a highly motivated Business Auditor to join our team! 


Reporting to the Senior Business Auditor, the Business Auditor (Commercial Insurance or Personal Insurance) plays a key role in the planning, execution, reporting, and follow-up of operational audits and quality assurance reviews. The position evaluates brokerage files, workflows, controls, and business processes to assess compliance with regulatory requirements, insurer guidelines, and internal standards. The Business Auditor provides independent, risk-based recommendations to improve operational effectiveness, strengthen compliance, reduce errors and omissions exposure, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.


What you will do: 



  • Conduct risk-based operational audits and file reviews to assess compliance with regulatory requirements, insurer guidelines, brokerage workflows, internal policies, and documentation standards

  • Assessing and evaluate business, operational, compliance, and errors & omissions (E&O) risks within Commercial and/or Personal Insurance operations, understanding business risks related to client files

  • Examine brokerage files and supporting records for completeness, accuracy, quality, and adherence to established procedures and controls

  • Document audit observations, analyze root causes, and develop practical recommendations to strengthen controls, improve quality, and mitigate risk

  • Prepare clear and concise audit reports, including findings, recommendations, and opportunities for continuous improvement

  • Collaborate with business leaders, trainers, and operational teams to support process improvements and enhance operational effectiveness

  • Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve client service delivery, and increase operational efficiency

  • Maintain audit documentation and working papers in accordance with departmental standards and audit methodology

  • Support special reviews, business initiatives, and projects related to risk management, compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement


What you will bring: 



  • Minimum 5 years Personal and Commercial Insurance experience

  • RIBO license required

  • CAIB or CIP designation an asset

  • Post-secondary education in Insurance or Business Administration, or a related discipline, with coursework in audit, compliance or insurance considered an asset 

  • Internal/external audit experience or equivalent preferably in a property and casualty insurance setting

  • Strong analytical skills an asset

  • Ability to work independently, and balance multiple priorities and project deadlines

  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, strong communication skills – both written and verbal

  • Ability to summarize audit results in clear, concise, understandable language

  • Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and Outlook required

  • Experience with EPIC broker management system an asset

The expected base salary range for this role is $61,000 to $88,000. Final compensation may vary and will take into account factors including relevant experience, qualifications, skills, knowledge and internal equity.
