CONTROLLER

OWN THE NUMBERS. LEAD THE TEAM.

Lead the close, strengthen the controls, and turn financial data into decisions across the Paradigm Group of Companies.

The Paradigm Group of Companies (PGC) is hiring a Controller to lead accounting, reporting, and cost accounting across our construction and manufacturing businesses. Reporting to the VP Finance, you will own the monthly close, lead audit and year-end, and build the controls and systems that keep our numbers accurate and our decisions fast. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on finance leader who wants to shape the finance function of a growing, data-driven housing and construction group.

This is a remote role, and candidates based in the Okanagan will be prioritized. Kamloops is preferred, and we are open to other areas in the Okanagan. You will lead the accounting team, work closely with operations leaders, and deliver the reporting that leadership and ownership rely on.

AT A GLANCE

  • Remote, full-time role, Monday to Friday, with Okanagan-based candidates prioritized (Kamloops preferred)

  • Reports to the VP Finance and leads the accounting team

  • Covers all PGC entities across construction and manufacturing

  • Competitive compensation of $100,000 to $110,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications

  • Group benefits, RRSP matching, EAP, annual safety allowance, referral bonus program, and growth opportunities

WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT

  • Own accounting and cost accounting across both construction and manufacturing.

  • Lead the accounting team and shape how the finance function runs, from controls to systems.

  • Work directly with the VP Finance, operations leaders, and ownership.

  • Improve systems and automation and see the results in how the business runs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own a timely monthly close for all entities, including accruals, reconciliations, intercompany, and consolidation.

  • Prepare the monthly management reporting package for the VP Finance, leadership, and ownership.

  • Report margin by business line, project, and product line.

  • Lead preparation of year-end and short-period financial statements, and work directly with external auditors.

  • Prepare technical accounting positions on revenue recognition, WIP, inventory costing, and grants and incentives.

  • Support tax advisors with corporate tax filings and year-end tax requirements.

  • Build and maintain construction job costing and WIP schedules.

  • Maintain manufacturing standard costing, overhead allocation, and inventory valuation.

  • Prepare budget vs. actual and variance analysis, and lead the annual budget process with the VP Finance.

  • Identify cost and margin improvement opportunities with operations leaders.

  • Design and document internal controls, approval limits, and month-end procedures.

  • Improve systems and automation, including AP, receipt capture, bank feeds, and reporting.

  • Lead, train, and develop the accounting team, setting priorities and reviewing work.

  • Oversee payroll accounting and remittance reconciliations.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years leading a close and a team.

  • Hands-on experience with construction (job costing, WIP, percentage-of-completion) or manufacturing (standard costing, inventory).

  • Experience leading audit preparation and working directly with external auditors.

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS.

  • Advanced Excel and experience with mid-market ERP/accounting systems.

  • Clear communication and leadership skills, with the confidence to explain financial results to non-finance leaders.

  • CPA designation (or an equivalent such as ACCA or a foreign CA) is an asset.

  • Experience in both construction and manufacturing is an asset.

  • Multi-entity consolidation and intercompany accounting experience is an asset.

  • Experience improving systems and automating processes is an asset.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.

  • Group benefits, RRSP matching, Employee Assistance Program, annual safety allowance, and referral bonus program.

  • Team building activities and initiatives.

  • Opportunities for professional growth and development within the Paradigm Group of Companies.

  • Varied work, meaningful responsibility, and a collaborative, innovative work environment.
