Job Overview
Act as the Subject Matter Expert for the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment programs, including the development, implementation and maintenance of the Benchmark - Safety Management Software. Ensures compliance with accepted safety and environmental standards and applicable legislation. Design, plan or perform duties in the prevention, control and remediation of health, safety and environmental hazards.
A Day In The Life
Visible on plant floor and office in all departments
Conduct Health & Safety orientation and training for all new employees
Monitor and advise on plant safety as to working conditions and practices with respect to safe operations and the control of designated substances
Act as resource person in developing a safe and health work environment.
Liaise with management to ensure safety and ergonomic compliance and improvement on all new and existing equipment.
Responsible to plan JHSC meetings, maintain minutes and complete action plans. Ensure all open issues are closed as soon as possible. Consistently follow up on open issues.
Schedule/participate JSA Safety Kaizen Events monthly
Update Benchmark including but not limited to Monthly TRIR and Monthly Incident reporting
Report recordable incidents in Benchmark within 24 hours, and meet with corporate safety team to discuss details a nd prepare presentation for weekly call
Close out Action Items from Gemba walks
Document calendar triggers for safety related events in Benchmark
Initiate and review all accidents/incidents and near misses. Ensure that proper preventative measures are in place. Provides recommendations and follow up as required and provide leadership in corrective action.
Orillia Plant:
Monitor compliance to Natural Resource (NR) Canada and Transport Canada regulations
Ensure operators are adhering to strict compliance of the rules related to the handling of explosives.
What will help you thrive in this role?
University Degree or College Diploma, preferably in safety and or environmental studies
Sound knowledge of Ontario safety, environmental regulations, codes, legislative requirements relating to OSHA, CSA, WSIA, NIOSH, WHIMS
Minimum 5 years working experience in manufacturing or warehouse environment
Demonstrated leadership and problem solving abilities
Strong communication skills both written, oral
Excellent interpersonal and employee relations skills
WSIB experience
Extensive knowledge of safety principles and practices
Able to perform physical demands analysis on various workstations
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Experience in adult education and presentation/training skills

The expected salary for this position is $83,200 – $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Please note this range reflects base salary only.
