We have an exciting opportunity for a highly detail-oriented and organized environmental professional to provide stewardship and regulatory guidance on obligations related to wildlife. In this role, you will implement wildlife monitoring programs at Canadian Natural Oil Sands sites and support other environmental initiatives by providing regulatory direction for ongoing operational and development activities.
You will use your strong communication skills to interface, support, and advise Operations and Project business units on operational controls to maintain regulatory requirements, generate technical reporting documents, and liaise with regulatory authorities. Initiative and flexibility are required as this role consists of approximately 60% office and 40% field work.

- Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta – Oil Sands site
- Shift schedule: 7 x 7, 12-hour shifts
- Safety sensitive position: Yes

- Safely perform wildlife and habitat assessments across diverse ecosystems using equipment such as ATVs, 4x4 vehicles, remote cameras, and other monitoring tools
- Lead wildlife teams by directing fieldwork, supervising students, and mentoring junior staff in surveys, assessments, nest sweeps, wildlife deterrent implementation, and other services as needed
- Design, execute, and report on environmental monitoring programs, providing wildlife expertise to support operational and development projects with a focus on habitat protection
- Support multi-disciplinary biophysical field assessments, including vegetation, waterbodies, and soils, as well as other environmental scopes and on-call duties when required
- Prepare technical reports and regulatory applications to meet provincial and federal requirements, including analyzing, interpreting, and clearly communicating field data
- Represent the organization at stakeholder forums, government committees, and industry groups while effectively liaising with regulators, stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams to provide updates and recommendations
- Must possess a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or a related field; must have a minimum of ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of relevant professional experience
- Preference will be given to applicants who are Qualified Environmental Professionals (QEP) or wildlife specialists, and to those who hold, or are eligible for, a professional designation (P.Biol.)
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in remote locations and be physically capable and competent to work in a variety of environmental conditions
- Knowledge and understanding of environmental policies and regulations in Alberta and Canada, especially those pertaining to wildlife and species at risk
- Proficiency in technical writing, problem-solving, and communication
