This position is a one-year opportunity in commemorative artwork and historic artwork analysis, community-based planning and stakeholder communications. The ‘Fellow’ will provide direct assistance to CAAPB Principal Planner and Executive Secretary in the Commemorative Works addition/modification/removal processes for several Commemorative Works that are currently under review or nearing submittal at CAAPB. Following the newly adopted Commemorative Works Rules (https://tinyurl.com/4kxr7ex3) the Fellow will develop a stakeholder communications plan – which is a guide for review of applications (including flow chart, communications plan and typical timelines, etc.) and checklist of best practices and strategies to most effectively engage applicants, stakeholders and community in the new Commemorative Works Rules process. This work will also result in development in an applicant’s guide that will guide individuals and groups through the addition/modification/removal review pathways. The Fellow will also work towards achieving steps towards implementation of the Capitol Mall Design Framework’s siting policy for works on campus, which guides thematic groupings and locations of works on campus.

This is a part-time temporary position working 10-20 hours a week anticipated to last up to one year.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework agreement. With a telework agreement, onsite attendance will be required for team members or as requested by management to meet business needs. Completion of a telework agreement will be required. Please review the Telework Policy for details.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates will have a minimum of one year of experience which could include coursework or internships that demonstrate experience and/or proficiency in:

  • Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Historical Research, Sustainability Practices, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Urban Design or related field.
  • Public process experience
  • Management or use of e-mail based and social media tools (personal or professional experience)

Minimum Qualifications Assessed At Interview

  • Ability to write and communicate information in a way that is clear and accessible to all audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn new software quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Software experience to include Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign and SketchUp Pro and SketchUp Layout
  • Knowledge or experience with Architectural, urban design, planning best practices (such as skills related to sustainable land use planning, development and building design)
  • Commemorative Works experience
  • Art history and public art history experience, research and/or studies

Physical Requirements

Work performed is primarily sedentary in nature, working at a computer, with some moving throughout the building as necessary for job duties. Requires occasional moving or transporting of items such as file folders, laptops, and light weight boxes.
