Field Service Specialist

About The Role

  • We are seeking an experienced Field Service Specialist to perform electrical and mechanical field services on rotating equipment throughout Western Canada.
  • This is a hands-on role for a technically skilled professional with strong mechanical and electrical aptitude. The successful candidate will inspect, troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and test motors, generators, and other electro-mechanical equipment while providing professional service to customers.
  • The role requires someone who can work independently in the field, solve problems under time constraints, communicate effectively with customers, and lead complex equipment overhaul projects when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform visual inspections of mechanical and electrical systems and rotating equipment.
  • Service, repair, maintain, and troubleshoot motors, generators, and related electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and provide customers with recommendations to improve equipment reliability.
  • Diagnose electrical and mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Perform **high-voltage (HV) and mechanical testing** on electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Lead and execute complex large-motor overhaul projects, coordinating work activities and personnel as required.
  • Complete accurate service reports and documentation for all work performed.
  • Communicate technical issues, findings, and recommended solutions clearly to customers and internal teams.
  • Maintain company service vehicle inventory, tools, equipment, and required safety items.
  • Travel throughout Western Canada to customer sites and respond to service and emergency requirements.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable provincial and federal safety regulations, codes, standards, and company procedures.
  • Develop and apply condition-monitoring tools and techniques to support equipment reliability.
  • Maintain a professional company image when interacting with customers, employees, and other stakeholders.
  • Work overtime, including evenings and weekends, and respond to emergency service requirements when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a field service, electrical/mechanical, rotating equipment, or related role.
  • Registered Electric Motor Systems Technician (EMST) Apprentice, Journeyperson/Red Seal Electric Motor Systems Technician, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Experience troubleshooting motors, generators, and electro-mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with high-voltage testing and mechanical testing is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based environment.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accountability.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prepare accurate service reports and technical documentation.
  • Experience with estimating is an asset.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout Western Canada.
  • Flexible to work overtime, weekends, and emergency call-outs as required.
