This position is in our Food Enterprise where we are committed to serving food manufacturers, food service customers, and retailers with a complete range of innovative ingredients and branded products. Our portfolio includes poultry, beef, egg, alternative protein, salt, oils, starches, sweeteners, cocoa and chocolate.

Job Purpose and Impact

The Food Scientist will provide technical expertise to new product development for product line growth and technology and process development for the creation of new capabilities. In this role, you will coordinate with other scientists to innovate new product development by identifying and implementing technical solutions to meet business goals.

Key Accountabilities

  • Identify product growth and new product opportunities.
  • Participate in sensory evaluation of animal protein products with cross functional teams and with customers.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership on products, process development and improvement, and support for quality systems and regulatory oversight.
  • Partner and stay connected with cross functional teams that include marketing, insights, sales, ops, food safety quality and regulatory.
  • Provide findings and analysis with insights, research, and commercial brand to develop short- and long-term testing programs for experimental and commercial products and hybrids.
  • Collaborate and build partnership with sales, business management and marketing partners to identify customer needs and translate these into new product development opportunities.
  • Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma/Certificate or bachelor’s degree in Food Science or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment
  • Two or more years of professional experience combined in the following areas: protein formulation development, ingredient functionality and product commercialization
  • Must be willing to participate in sensory evaluation of animal protein products
  • Minimum of two years of related work experience
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time, into US and Canada
  • Ability to support early or late hours or weekends as needed
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Possess a valid, full Canadian Driver’s Licence in good standing, authorizing you to drive independently during the course of your employment
  • Must be legally entitled to work for Cargill in Canada

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or other post-secondary degree
  • Prior experience in product management
  • Operations experience
  • Strategic thinker with ability to build effective plans to support strategic initiatives
  • Tech-savvy and comfortable with evolving business-critical technology

The pay range for this position is $75,000-$90,000.00 CAD per annum.
