About the Position Lethbridge Polytechnic offers a student-centered environment that provides practical and innovative learning experiences. The Centre for Business, Arts, and Sciences (CBAS) delivers a range of certificate, diploma, university transfer and service courses to students in both its own program, and those in other Lethbridge Polytechnic programs. CBAS is comprised on the Schools of Academic Upgrading, Business, and the Liberal Arts and Life Science together with Testing Services and Lakeshore Campus. The Centre defines itself through excellence in teaching and learning, fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in all activities: development and renewal of courses and programs, approaches to teaching and learning, and scholarly activity and community engagement by faculty, staff and students.
Withing CBAS, Lakeshore Campus is located in the Lethbridge Correctional Centre. Lakeshore Campus provides programming in three educational streams-Academic Studies, Personal Development and Job Employment Training. Each stream focuses on a different aspect of offender education and development yet function together to provide the highest quality education available to incarcerated learners. Lethbridge Polytechnic ensures the quality and integrity of course curriculum, the experience and expertise of the instructors and the effectiveness of personal, academic, and employment skills so they can live and contribute successfully in society and avoid the negative lifestyle and behaviors that can lead back to incarceration.
CBAS is currently seeking applicants for the position of a Home Maintenance and Repairs instructor to teach incarcerated students within the Job Employment Training Program. The intention of this course is to supply offenders with experience in trades that could help them get jobs in the home maintenance or manufactured home construction. Many of the skills in this class are for trades that do not require apprenticeship training. Offenders will gain the experience needed to enter this profession more easily after release

Position Details
- Primary responsibilities include:
- Classroom preparation and instruction, student attendance, and grading.
- Supporting success of a diverse group of students
- Ensuring security protocols are followed in a high security setting
- Working collegially with Lakeshore instructors, staff and Lethbridge Correctional staff
- Course delivery is face to face during the day (Monday thru Thursday; 8:20 – 11:00 pm. and 12:45- 2:00 pm. and Fridays 8:20 -11:00 am) for 3-week blocks. This course will be run 5 times per year.
- This is considered a part-time contract position. Instructors will only receive contracts for the three week intervals 5 times a year
- There is no option for remote teaching for this course.
Required Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- The preferred candidate will have experience in toilet and bathroom fixture installation, tile and laminate installation, drywalling, mudding and taping, painting, tub and fixture installation, tiling and grouting, basic framing, finishing work, window/door installation and/or shingle installation.
- Willingness to work in a high security environment with restricted movement and high-risk individuals.
- Successful criminal record check.
- The successful candidate will also need to complete a security orientation through the correctional centre.
Salary $55 per hour
