UBC Properties Trust was established in 1988. We build financial legacy and build innovative spaces to live and learn. We develop, service and lease residential land at UBC to create communities and build UBC’s endowment for future generations. We construct and manage rental properties to provide residential, retail and office space to support workforce housing and other academic objectives. We provide project management services to construct institutional buildings for UBC and advise on land use and development. We operate on both the Point Grey campus and UBC Okanagan; and have two property management divisions, Village Gate Homes (UBC staff and faculty rentals) and Wesbrook Properties (market rentals).
Technology plays a central role in supporting our operations, collaboration, security, and modern workplace initiatives. Our IT team supports Microsoft 365, Teams, cloud services, corporate devices, networking infrastructure, Wi-Fi systems, printers, mobile technology, and modern boardroom technology, including Teams-enabled meeting rooms with large-format displays and video conferencing capabilities. Ensuring these systems remain reliable, secure, and easy to use is essential to supporting the day-to-day work of our employees and business operations.
The Position
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Assistant to join our growing internal IT team and support a modern Microsoft-based environment spanning cloud services, devices, boardrooms, and on-premises infrastructure. The IT Assistant is the primary point of contact for day-to-day IT support and operational technology needs across the organization. The role supports staff with hardware, software, and infrastructure monitoring while working closely with the Director of IT & Cybersecurity.
This hands-on position is ideal for someone who enjoys both proactive operational work and responsive user support. A key responsibility is performing daily infrastructure and technology health checks to help ensure systems remain stable, reliable, and ready for use before issues affect staff.
The successful candidate will gain exposure to enterprise technologies including Microsoft 365, Intune, virtualization, cybersecurity tools, Teams Rooms, networking, and modern endpoint management within a collaborative, continuously improving environment.

Key Responsibilities
End-User Support
- Provide Tier 1 IT support for hardware, software, account, and connectivity issues
- Respond to support requests professionally and within established response expectations
- Support users with Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Troubleshoot Windows and macOS devices, peripherals, printers, docking stations, and mobile devices
- Escalate advanced technical issues when appropriate
- Perform daily operational health checks across critical IT systems and infrastructure, including:
- Microsoft Teams Rooms, displays, cameras, microphones, speakers, and presentation systems
- Wi-Fi infrastructure, switches, VPN connectivity, and internet services
- On-prem servers including Active Directory, Scale Computing HC3 virtualization environment, backup jobs, and access control systems
- Printers, scanners, and shared office technology
- Document daily check results and escalate anomalies or recurring issues appropriately
- Proactively resolve minor issues before they impact staff operations
- Maintain and continuously improve operational checklists and documentation
- Configure, deploy, recover, and maintain staff laptops, desktops, mobile devices, and accessories
- Support onboarding and offboarding processes
- Maintain accurate inventory records including device assignments, warranties, and accessories
- Perform software installations, patching, and routine endpoint maintenance
- Assist with endpoint management platforms including Microsoft Intune, NinjaOne, and Jamf
- Assist with account provisioning, password resets, MFA/passkey support, licensing, and access requests within Active Directory and Entra ID
- Support SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams permissions and collaboration requests
- Help staff follow best practices for secure cloud collaboration and data handling
- Assist with Microsoft 365 administration and troubleshooting activities
Assist with monitoring and supporting on-prem systems under the guidance of the Director of IT & Cybersecurity, including:
- Active Directory administration and troubleshooting
- Scale Computing HC3 virtualization environment monitoring and maintenance assistance
- Access control systems and related infrastructure
- Internal application and automation servers
- Backup monitoring, maintenance windows, patching, and system restarts
- Infrastructure documentation and operational procedures
- Assist users with identifying suspicious emails and security-related concerns
- Support phishing awareness initiatives and IT security communications
- Follow established IT and cybersecurity procedures
- Escalate recurring operational or security concerns appropriately
- Assist with cybersecurity and infrastructure platforms including Microsoft Defender, Fortinet, Wazuh, and related tools
- Support Teams Rooms, AV systems, displays, cameras, microphones, and meeting technology
- Assist staff with meeting setup and troubleshooting
- Resolve general office technology issues involving printers, scanners, connectivity, and shared equipment
- Maintain clear documentation for procedures, troubleshooting steps, inventory, infrastructure, and operational checks
- Create end-user guides and internal IT documentation
- Support process improvements and operational standardization initiatives
- Utilize AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot to improve efficiency and documentation quality
- Assist with IT projects, deployments, and technology rollouts as needed
Competencies and Qualifications
- Diploma, certificate, or formal coursework in Information Technology, Computer Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field
- 0–2 years of experience in IT support, helpdesk, or technical support environments
- Recent graduates with strong technical fundamentals are encouraged to apply
- Working knowledge of:
- Microsoft 365
- Windows and macOS
- Basic networking concepts
- Active Directory and user account administration
- Strong communication, customer service, and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage confidential information professionally
- Comfortable balancing proactive operational tasks with reactive support requests
- Exposure to virtualization platforms such as Scale Computing HC3, Hyper-V, or VMware
- Familiarity with endpoint management tools such as Intune, NinjaOne, or Jamf
- Familiarity with ticketing systems such as NinjaOne Ticketing or ServiceNow
- Basic understanding of Wi-Fi, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, and switching
- Exposure to cybersecurity tools and monitoring platforms
- Interest in automation, AI technologies, scripting, or infrastructure operations
- Experience in coding languages; Python and SQL database is an asset
