Tetra Tech is seeking a Junior/Intermediate Geophysicist (Near-Surface Geophysics ) to join our Geophysics team in Whitehorse, YK.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity to support geophysical projects across the Yukon and Northern and Western Canada, while contributing to a growing practice within an established northern office.

We’re looking for someone with 2–6 years of near-surface geophysics experience who is ready for the next step in their career. This role includes significant fieldwork and travel to remote project sites, often in challenging environmental conditions.

Your Role

  • Support a wide variety of geophysical projects throughout the project cycle, from small local assignments to larger multi-person programs at remote project sites.
  • Plan, support, lead and complete geophysical data collection surveys, including, but not limited to, seismic refraction, MASW, VSP, ERT, electromagnetics, downhole, non-destructive testing, and GPR.
  • Perform field troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
  • Support safety and logistics planning.
  • Process and interpret geophysical data collected in the field.
  • Work closely with team members to deliver assignments on schedule and within budget.
  • Represent Tetra Tech professionally when interfacing with our clients.
  • Conduct activities in accordance with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
  • Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a strong understanding of current developments in the discipline.
  • Follow Tetra Tech’s safety policies and procedures, work safely at all times, and report any health and safety incidents or concerns.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Geophysicist-in-Training or Professional Geophysicist with a provincial association such as EGBC or APEGA.
  • 2–6 years of near-surface geophysics experience, preferably in northern environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of near-surface geophysical methods and related software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in both field and office settings.
  • Strong communication skills, adaptability, and a positive attitude toward field-based work.
  • Travel will be required in this position, and candidates must be prepared to undertake field assignments of up to 24 days at a time.
  • Physically capable of performing manual labour and carrying heavy equipment.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence or equivalent.
  • Experience with Matlab, Res2DInv, SeisImager, WellCAD, ArcGIS, or Surfer is an asset.
  • Safety training such as First Aid, ATV, snowmobile operation, or WHMIS is an asset.
