As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the LPN provides safe, patient centered Care, on a 30 bed Geriatric Psychiatry unit. Current Nursing process is applied to achieve leadership and excellence in mood disorders, thought disorders, and dementia care, utilizing best practices and policies driven to maintain the integrity of patience care. Ensures the delivery of safe and effective patient care by: Coordinating, monitoring and adjusting team assignments in optimizing patient care. Facilitating collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and with other programs and services. Assisting in staff orientation and student learning experiences. PLEASE NOTE: This posting is scheduled to close at 23:59 of the posting end date but may be filled earlier under LOU #20 if a regular employee of the same classification who holds a regular position within this unit expresses their interest in this vacancy by 23:59 on the 5th calendar day following the posting date. Description: The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN must be able to team lead effectively on their own. The LPN works to the full scope of practice in providing safe, quality care in accordance with established standards, and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies and procedures of Covenant Health. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUPE Auxiliary Nursing Collective Agreement.
Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Graduate of a Licensed Practical Nurse program. Current and active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (C.L.P.N.A.) required. Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS Level C Health Care Provider is required. Experience in mental health (Geriatric Psychiatry) or related settings required. Ability to provide leadership and function as a team member. Ability to work independently. Ability to work in a fast paced and, at times, highly stressful environment. Must be able to speak, read, and write English fluently. Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patients' behavior. Ability to recognize, assess and act upon patients in acute mental health crisis, such as delirium. Strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication style to meet patient needs. Good organizational and conflict resolution skills. Excellent time management skills. Proven dependability. Ability to be objective in decision making.
Preferred Qualifications:
Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training preferred. Current bELITE training preferred. I.V. certification and current Alaris pump training preferred.
