LSA 3 - Support Services Technician MILL

The Support Services Technician works under the general supervision of the Support Services Supervisor. The core function of the position is to order, receive, and invoice new library materials as well as monitor new vendor supplied Machine Readable Cataloguing (MARC) records or add new MARC records when vendor cannot supply.
As the Support Services Technician, you will:
- Ensure correct receipt of adult, children's and young adult books and audio-visual material
- Maintain ILS database by importing vendor-supplied bibliographic records
- Order adult, children's and young adult books and audio-visual material
- Perform original cataloguing of designated materials or specialty collections
- Contribute to the maintenance of the data base
Your education and qualifications include:
- Library Technician's Diploma from an accredited community college or technical college program in Canada.
- Demonstrated ability to use web-based tools and resources
- Demonstrated ability in basic mathematical skills
- Working knowledge of standard cataloguing, classification, and authority rules and standards, such as AACR2, DDC, MARC, LCSH
- Ability to type 40 wpm
- Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail
- Ability to work with minimum direct supervision
- Ability to follow procedures while remaining flexible to ongoing revisions of standards and library procedures
- Ability to accept and adapt to change
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions

Ability to meet deadlines when required
- Ability to communicate effectively with other staff members and library suppliers, verbally and in writing
