We have a permanent full-time opportunity for a Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) Clinician to join our high functioning MHSU Youth Intensive Case Management (YICM) team at the Cranbrook Mental Health Substance Use Unit in beautiful Cranbrook, B.C.
Who are we looking for?
The clinician will have a strong understanding of substance use and its effects, adolescent cognitive, social, emotional, interpersonal development, and are trained to utilize Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills, group facilitation techniques, experiential education techniques, crisis intervention, and suicide risk assessment and intervention.

This position is part of the Youth Intensive Case Management team. This team is interdisciplinary and will provide case management in accordance with the guidelines for high risk youth problematic substance use, concurrent disorders and/or mental illness. The team will also work closely with partners across the community to provide wrap-around services for clients. Previous experience working directly with youth and community MHSU is required.
The Substance Use Clinician functions as a member of the larger Hospitals & Communities Integrated Services (HCIS) health care team and as a member of a specific MHSU multi-disciplinary team whose purpose is to ensure that persons experiencing substance use problems/disorders or concurrent substance use and mental health problems have access to timely, responsive, evidence based treatment and clinical supports across the continuum of available services. The Substance Use Clinician provides, at the advanced practice level, assessment, treatment, service coordination and, as required, urgent response to the most complex clients, frequently with co-occurring disorders, who may also have serious functional impairment in the domains of physical health and personal, family, financial, occupational, and social life. The Substance Use Clinician functions as a primary clinician utilizing a variety of specialized treatment modalities/therapies for individuals, groups of clients and/or their families.
Scheduling Information:
Shift times are from 08:30 to 16:30 hours and shift types are days. Days of work are Monday to Friday.

Education, Training, and Experience:
Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution in an Allied Health, Behavioural, or Social Science field relevant to the position.
Two (2) years’ recent related experience in a mental health and substance use environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current valid BC Driver’s License (Class 5).
