  • This position has been evaluated with an annual base salary range of $80,000 - $120,000 CAD. Offers will be determined based on the successful candidate’s assessed skills, experience and qualifications.

About The Role

Based in Victoria, Canada, the Network Engineer will join our Group Systems team and report to the IT Lead Americas. The role is responsible for the day-to-day delivery, security, availability and performance of Codan’s network infrastructure.

You will provide technical guidance on network architecture, support technology improvement projects and work closely with teams across the business, including overseas offices. You will also liaise with external hardware, software and service providers to maintain reliable connectivity and deliver new IT solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the availability and performance of network devices and services, including routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, VPN gateways and firewalls.
  • Monitor network performance, proactively identify bottlenecks and resolve incidents within agreed SLA timeframes.
  • Configure, test, install, troubleshoot and maintain network hardware, software and communications equipment.
  • Apply and validate network security controls, including firmware updates, vulnerability remediation and access-control changes.
  • Deliver planned network changes, upgrades and configuration updates accurately and on schedule.
  • Design and implement technology and networking solutions that improve business efficiency and system performance.
  • Deploy new IT solutions locally and across international locations.
  • Specify, configure and maintain server hardware and operating systems, including patches and software upgrades.
  • Provide remote and onsite desktop, server and network support, including user-facing tickets and helpdesk overflow.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external service providers to support infrastructure projects and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills Required

  • A relevant IT networking qualification or recognised industry certification.
  • Advanced knowledge of firewalls and sound knowledge of networking principles.
  • Hands-on experience configuring and supporting routers, switches, wireless equipment and other networking hardware.
  • Experience with security appliances, wireless technologies, web proxies, LAN/WAN environments and virtualisation tools.
  • Experience supporting server hardware, operating systems, patching and software upgrades.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A customer-focused approach with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently, use initiative and escalate issues when appropriate.
  • Able to prioritise competing demands while working effectively as part of a wider team.
  • A flexible, adaptable approach and a willingness to learn new technologies and skills.
