Outside Sales Representative - Edmonton / Northern AB

MacDonald Search Group

Date: 2 hours ago
City: Edmonton, AB
Contract type: Full time

Our client is looking for a driven sales professional who wants to build business, develop relationships and grow a territory.

Since 1971, our client has represented leading manufacturers in the plumbing and heating industry. Our success has been built on strong relationships, exceptional customer service and a sales team that understands how to create opportunities and turn them into long-term business.

They are growing the Alberta team and are looking for a sales-focused, self-motivated individual who enjoys getting in front of customers, opening new doors and developing business.

This is first and foremost a sales and growth position.

The Opportunity

You'll represent a diverse portfolio of leading plumbing, HVAC and related product lines throughout the Alberta market.

Your job isn't simply to service existing business. We want someone who is excited about finding the next opportunity, whether that's growing an existing account, introducing a product to a new customer, developing contractor relationships or identifying an entirely new market opportunity.

You'll work with wholesalers, contractors, builders, engineers and other industry partners to increase awareness, generate demand and grow sales for the manufacturers we represent.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Develop and grow existing customer relationships while actively pursuing new business.
  • Prospect for new customers, projects and market opportunities throughout your territory.
  • Build strong relationships with wholesalers, contractors, builders, engineers and other industry partners.
  • Create demand for the manufacturers and products represented by Barclay Sales.
  • Get products in front of the right people and confidently ask for the business.
  • Identify underdeveloped accounts and develop strategies to grow them.
  • Conduct regular customer visits, sales calls, presentations and product demonstrations.
  • Follow up consistently on opportunities, quotations, projects and leads.
  • Work closely with our manufacturers and the broader Barclay Sales team to execute sales and growth initiatives.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of your territory, including competitive activity, customer needs and emerging opportunities.
  • Use CRM, digital tools, social media and traditional relationship-building to develop and maintain business.
  • Participate in industry events, trade shows, training sessions and customer events.
  • Take ownership of your territory and its results.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for a hunter as much as a relationship builder.

You're someone who doesn't wait for the phone to ring. You enjoy meeting people, developing relationships and figuring out where the next piece of business is going to come from.

You're comfortable walking into an account where our client may have little or no business today and creating a reason for that customer to work with us.

You are:

  • Sales driven and motivated by growth.
  • A self-starter who takes ownership of results.
  • Comfortable prospecting and developing new accounts.
  • Persistent with follow-up and comfortable asking for the sale.
  • Strong at building genuine, long-term customer relationships.
  • Curious and willing to learn.
  • Organized and able to manage multiple manufacturers, products and opportunities.
  • Comfortable working independently while contributing to a larger team.
  • Creative in how you find and develop new business.
  • Competitive, accountable and motivated to grow your territory.

Industry & Technical Knowledge

  • Experience in plumbing, HVAC, hydronics, wholesale distribution or the construction industry is certainly an asset, but it isn't the only background we're interested in.
  • We're equally interested in proven salespeople from other industries who know how to prospect, build relationships, develop a territory and close business.
  • You don't need to be the person who can diagnose every technical issue on day one.

You do need the ability and willingness to learn our products, understand where they provide value and confidently communicate that value to customers.

Our client has experienced people, manufacturers and training resources available to support the technical side. We're looking for someone who can combine that support with strong sales ability and turn opportunities into growth.

Why work with our client?

  • For more than 50 years, our client has built its business around relationships, customer service and representing quality manufacturers.
  • You'll be joining an established organization with:
  • A broad portfolio of respected manufacturers and products.
  • Existing relationships throughout the plumbing and HVAC industry.
  • Support from an experienced sales and technical team.
  • Product and manufacturer training.
  • An established presence in the Alberta market.
  • The opportunity to make a measurable impact on the growth of your territory.

If you're someone who enjoys building a market rather than simply maintaining one, we'd like to hear from you.

Come help us grow what’s next for our client in Alberta.
