Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker - Barrie, Ontario - CAD$150.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 82-year-old woman living with her daughter's family in Barrie, Ontario. She's cognitively sharp and mobile within her home but no longer drives due to slower reaction times and depth perception changes following a serious accident in 2019. She's Irish-born, British-raised, vegetarian, and has a direct but humorous personality. She's currently experiencing isolation and depression, which runs in her family, and needs regular social engagement and companionship to maintain her quality of life.
Responsibilities:
- Provide companionship and meaningful conversation during visits
- Transport client to and from senior center on Tuesdays (9:30am-11:30am)
- Accompany client on grocery shopping trips and errands within a 7-8km radius
- Visit local consignment stores, Giant Tiger, and other community spots she enjoys
- Light meal prep assistance including reheating and reminders
- Light housekeeping and tidying
- Provide memory prompts and gentle redirection as needed
- Support with walking and transfers as required
- Help maintain her independence while ensuring safety
What We're Looking For:
- Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle with proper insurance
- Experience supporting seniors with mobility needs
- Understanding of depression and isolation in elderly clients
- Patience with direct communication styles and dry British humor
- Knowledge or interest in vegetarian cooking
- Warm, positive energy that makes clients feel comfortable
- Reliable, consistent, and takes initiative
- English speaking
- Comfortable with light housekeeping tasks
Schedule:
Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 9:00am-12:00pm (6 hours per week total). Tuesday visits include transportation to/from senior center. Thursday visits focus on grocery shopping and errands. Consistent weekly schedule preferred to build trust and routine.
The family is easing their mother into accepting care support after a previous arrangement fell through. They're looking for someone who can help her feel less like a burden, get her out of the house regularly, and provide the social interaction she's missing. The client lives with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchild with special needs, so reliability is essential as the family balances multiple care responsibilities.

She attends a seniors center on Tuesdays from 9:30-11:30am. Family includes a child with special needs.
