Personal Support Worker - ByWard Market, Ottawa - CAD$275.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate French-speaking caregiver to support a mother with Alzheimer's disease who lives in a high-rise building in the ByWard Market area of downtown Ottawa. Her husband has been her primary caregiver but is currently undergoing chemotherapy for cancer and needs support to focus on his treatment. This is their first time receiving professional care services, and they're looking for someone reliable who can provide consistent, skilled support during this challenging time.
Responsibilities:
The caregiver will provide comprehensive daily support including personal care assistance with bathing and dressing, light meal preparation such as reheating meals and providing reminders, medication reminders and assistance, memory prompts and gentle redirection for cognitive support, light housekeeping including cleaning and laundry, and transportation for errands and appointments. The role requires someone who can work independently while maintaining clear communication with the family about the client's needs and any changes in her condition.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal caregiver speaks fluent French, has demonstrated experience with Alzheimer's care and memory support, is calm and patient with cognitive challenges, brings positive energy and makes the client feel comfortable, is reliable and consistent with scheduled visits, takes initiative when needed, communicates clearly with family members, and has strong personal care skills including bathing assistance. The caregiver must be comfortable with downtown parking logistics, as visitor parking at the building is limited and paid street parking may be necessary (expenses will be reimbursed). A valid driver's license is required for transportation assistance.
Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM (3 hours each day), and Wednesday and Friday from 8:15 AM to 9:15 AM (1 hour each day) to assist with transportation to activities. Total of 11 hours per week. The family is seeking someone who can commit to this consistent schedule and is looking for a long-term care relationship.
The family values a caregiver who respects their mother's independence while providing the necessary support, and who can help maintain her dignity and quality of life during this transition period.
