Abbotsford, BC, Canada

BC Cancer - Abbotsford is a full-service Regional Cancer Center located in the eastern Fraser Valley. We are seeking permanent Radiation Oncologist to join our current staff of 12 Radiation Oncologists, 3 part time General Practitioners in Oncology, and one full time Nurse Practitioner, working within the provincial Radiation Therapy Program at BC Cancer.

BC Cancer Abbotsford has 4 linear accelerators and 2 newly renovated brachytherapy OR suites. The Centre provides service to approximately 2200 new patients per year and treats all tumor sites other than Pediatrics. Abbotsford serves as a tertiary referral Centre for brachytherapy services for the entire Fraser Valley region, with on site LDR and HDR Prostate Brachytherapy, as well as GYN, Skin, and Oesophageal Brachytherapy Programs. All modern external beam radiation therapy techniques such as VMAT, SRS, and SABR are available on site as well. Capital funding to expand the Centre has been announced to soon include an MRI Simulator, and PET/CT Unit. The centre has collaborative and innovative nursing, medical physics, dosimetry, and therapy staff.

The BC Cancer-Abbotsford Department of Radiation Oncology is committed to excellence in clinical care and focused on developing academic excellence in a provincial cancer care environment. The BC Cancer’s population-based model and resultant databases provide outstanding opportunities for outcome-based research. The Abbotsford Centre participates actively in several clinical trials with a successful and funded on-site Clinical Trials Unit. We have a Clinical Fellowship Program in Radiation Oncology, and as an Academic Centre of the University of British Columbia have several medical students and residents rotating through our clinics. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative care team committed to excellence, and expected to participate in clinical, research, administrative as well as academic activities, including teaching.

Abbotsford, the “City in the Country”, is nested in the shadow of majestic Mt. Baker, in the eastern Fraser Valley, and has a blend of modern urban living and a friendly country atmosphere. Thanks to the comfortable west coast climate and surrounding geography, a variety of recreational opportunities are nearby, and downtown Vancouver is about a 1-hour drive away.

We are looking for individuals who are collegial and will work well with our existing team. Applicants must be eligible for licensure in BC as a Radiation Oncologist and have Canadian certification in Radiation Oncology (FRCPC), or an equivalent qualification.
