Reporting to the Executive Officer, Human Resources, the Health and Safety Supervisor leads the implementation of safety and prevention initiatives, advances the strategic plan, and champions a strong culture of safety while providing expert guidance across the organization.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Act as the Board’s subject matter expert on occupational health and safety, partnering with leaders, employees, and committees to ensure legislative compliance, mitigate workplace risks, investigate incidents, and deliver health and safety programs and training across multiple sites;
  • Research and support the development and implementation of policies, procedures, programs and safe work practices to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and governmental regulatory requirements and recognized standards;
  • Anticipate, identify, evaluate and provide prevention strategies/programs for workplace hazards;
  • Provide timely and accurate counsel regarding health and safety issues, policies, and best practices to senior management, supervisory staff, school administrators, and the Joint Health and Safety Committee;
  • Provide subject-specific expertise related to occupational hygiene assessments, chemical safety, infection control, ergonomics, machine safety, and incident investigations;
  • Support the activities of school and site-based Health and Safety Committees;
  • Promote and follow the internal responsibility system for health and safety matters;
  • Design and deliver education training programs to a multi-level organization;
  • Provide consultation and support for critical injury investigations, work refusals, work stoppages and investigation of unsafe working conditions;
  • Manage the online incident reporting system, including user support, data integrity, report generation, and monitoring of incident reporting compliance across the organization;
  • Liaise and support the health and wellness team with employee engagement events and programs;
  • Support the compliance of AODA as a key member of the AODA committee;
  • Provide oversight and direction in the injury/incident investigation process;
  • Participate in multi stakeholder committee meetings providing sound data, analytics and expertise on a variety of initiatives ;
  • Support the compliance of AODA as a key member of the AODA committee;
  • Represent the Board with contractors, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of the Environment, and Public Health;
  • Analyze incident reporting and costing data; and prepare summary reports.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field; or equivalent work experience;
  • A Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/or Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation is preferred;
  • A minimum three to five years’ experience in progressive health and safety management, preferably in a unionized sector;
  • Solid understanding and sound working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIB and other related codes and legislation;
  • Strong customer service focus, with an equally strong work ethic; and demonstrated ability to lead, and be part of a team;
  • Computer proficiency is essential;
  • Excellent problem solving, organizational and conflict resolution skills; combined with superior interpersonal and communications skills would be an asset;
  • Excellent training facilitator with an understanding of adult learning;
  • A valid driver’s license, with access to reliable transportation, as extensive travel throughout the Board’s jurisdiction, is required.

This is a full-time permanent position.

HOURS: 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday

LOCATION: Catholic Education Centre, Welland, ON

SALARY: $97,716.89 - $108,574.33 per annum
