Smelter Labourer

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Smelter Labourer to join our Glencore Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations.

The position will be based in Greater Sudbury (Falconbridge), Ontario.

This is a full-time, permanent, unionized position.

The hourly wage rate is $38.61 per hour, the position is eligible for applicable bonuses.

This position is being posted to fill an existing vacancy.

Work location is not accessible by public transportation.

Duties and Accountabilities:

• Works in compliance with Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations safety rules and guidelines.
• Receives instructions from supervision and direction from smelter operators.
• Performs manual tasks such as: housekeeping tasks; (sweep, shovel, wash, etc); delivering supplies, samples, mail.
• Assist operators in operating equipment and process.
• May assist with operation tasks around the electric furnace and roaster area
• Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Reports and handles spills according to guidelines set out in the spill report manual.
• Performs other related tasks as required.
  
  

About You

The qualified applicant will be required to work a 12-hour shift schedule in a highly sensitive work environment. The qualified candidate will be working with molten metal, perform tasks near the electric furnace and roaster area, operate light mobile equipment and other tasks as required.

Skills

Education and Skills

Applicants must possess a Grade 12 Diploma. Post-secondary education will be considered an asset.

This position requires significant mechanical reasoning skills along with demonstrated troubleshooting and analytical skills.
