The Position:

The Software Developer/Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing and implementation of software devices and systems. This individual is required to research, evaluate and synthesize technical information to develop software for products; as well as; identify and recommend software architecture and performance improvements.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain embedded Linux systems.
  • Define and implement system architecture for Linux software platforms.
  • Lead architectural decisions, including partitioning, interfaces, and scalability considerations.
  • Integrate and optimize kernel, bootloader, and root filesystem components.
  • Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and application teams to ensure system-level alignment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve low-level system issues (boot, drivers, performance)
  • Document system architecture, design decisions, and development processes
  • Customize and maintain Yocto layers, recipes, and build configurations
  • Contribute to code reviews and enforce software quality standards
  • Analyze, monitor and improve efficiency and stability of the system
  • Manage and maintain version control, configurations management and releases
  • Identify and solve complex technical problems

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong expertise in Linux systems and development workflows. Embedded Linux experience a bonus
  • Solid understanding of software architecture principles (modularity, abstraction, interfaces)
  • Proficiency in C/C++ and scripting languages (Bash, Python). Experience in Lua is a bonus.
  • Experience with Linux kernel configuration, device trees, and driver integration
  • Experience with Linux driver design and development
  • Deep working knowledge of Linux or Embedded Linux
  • Ability to debug complex system-level issues using tools like gdb, strace, perf
  • Experience with version control (Git) and collaborative development practices
  • Understanding of cross-compilation and toolchains is a bonus
  • Familiarity with bootloaders (e.g., U-Boot) and system bring-up is a bonus
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward practical, maintainable solutions
  • Good at debugging previously written code
  • Detail orientated, able to identify issues and provide appropriate resolutions
  • Able to work under pressure and remain calm
  • Able to prioritize work according to the given deadlines

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Linux development
  • Demonstrated experience designing or contributing to software architecture for Linux
  • Experience working in a Linux development environment (CLI-heavy workflows)
  • Familiarity with Agile or iterative development processes
  • Hands-on experience with hardware bring-up and board support packages (BSPs) is a bonus
  • Proven experience building and maintaining Yocto-based distributions in production environments is nice to have
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with C and C++ development
  • Familiar with Lua, Open GL, Subversion, Shell script, Object-oriented programming languages, C#, Git and Python
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and networking security
  • Familiarity with Bluetooth protocols and communication
