JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties:
The North Coast Transmission Line Project will help shape the future of British Columbia’s north coast. By delivering clean, reliable power to northern B.C., it will unleash major economic opportunities, support growth in key industries, and attract billions in private investment in our economy. It will enable development in mining, critical mines, LNG, manufacturing, and technology – sectors essential to diversifying B.C.’s economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Recognized by provincial and national leaders as critical infrastructure for Canada’s future, the project is being advanced in partnership with First Nations and the Province of B.C.. Joining this team means contributing to a transformative initiative that will power B. C.’s next wave of industrial development and strengthen communities across the province and country.
If you are a self-starter who enjoys working in the field on large and complex construction projects and working on new BC Hydro stations, then we invite you to join the team. The civil Site Engineering team helps develop and oversee all technical aspects of field engineering including development of plans, construction schedules, procedures, and construction methods and systems on high complexity and large construction projects. The Site Engineer is also responsible for working with our contractors to assure contract compliance, the application of accepted construction technology and standards and to sort non-compliance issues in the field by bringing design and construction people together. We work closely with engineering design and project engineering teams to get this done, completing field review as their field delegates and help assure that design intent is met.
* At the heart of the construction team, you use your technical expertise to get answers to complex technical queries and problems by bringing design engineers and contractors together to keep construction on track.
* Review and provide input into construction contracts, test plans, and constructability input into design phase of projects.
* Construction oversight on major projects across the province, working with our contractors to ensure proper coordination and staging of construction activities.
* Perform first-level quality assurance to confirm that the execution of work is in accordance with the plans, specifications, drawings, and industry standards.
* Witness tests and inspections and document in accordance ITP's and contract requirements. Complete the field review, or coordinate witness and hold points for critical components and documenting these activities in field review records.
* Maintain strong relationships and liaise with different discipline design engineering staff, both to conduct field review and to organize timely resolution of technical issues. You are the eyes and ears of the POR in the field, as their delegate.
* Collaborates with construction management to eliminate any hazards associated with the work that may adversely affect the environment or the safety or health of employees.
* Organizes the accumulation of assigned discipline technical information (redlined construction drawings, RFIs, NCRs); prepare design change notices and reviews conformance records. Prepare construction reports telling the construction story.
* May monitor material procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and schedule within the assigned discipline.
* May be asked to initiate and maintains records for potential contract claims, progress reports, design change justifications, etc.
Qualifications:
* Civil Engineering degree with a minimum 8 years of experience in design and construction.
* Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng or P.Geo) in the Province of British Columbia.
* Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
* 8 years’ experience in engineering related to civil and construction engineering. Experience in high voltage transmission line construction, substation or access and RoW clearing will be considered an asset to this position.
* Ability to analyze and resolve challenging and unusual engineering problems with considerable independence and understand and appreciate implications of costs, constructability, operability, and safety.
* Ability to analyze, interpret and evaluate various complex technical studies and data of considerable complexity and diversity, define, and develop criteria and cost estimates for proposed technical issue resolution.
* Demonstrated technical writing and presentation skills, excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to develop collaborative relationships within your team, with other parts of your organization and outside of your organization.
* Demonstrated ongoing professional development such as self-study, attendance at technical and administrative courses and participation in technical and professional societies.
* Knowledge of project management, including cost control, project administration and contracts management.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
* This is a field-based role requiring regular travel to various job sites, often daily.
* Job requires frequent working outdoors in all types of weather conditions and with regular exposure to construction-related elements such as dust, noise etc.
* Required to drive in adverse weather conditions, walk over rough terrain, climb in and out of trenches, work around heavy equipment and machinery.
* Requirement to work in close proximity to energize electrical equipment.
* This project includes multiple work locations, including but not limited to Prince George, Burns Lake, Telkwa, Smither, Terrace, and potential camp sites situated along the project footprint.
* The position may require working night or afternoon shifts and/or rotational shifts based on project needs.
