Store Board Members (Volunteers)

Volunteer Board Members At BFM Mission Thrift Store

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

BFM Foundation (Canada) is a national organization with over 50 thrift stores across the nation. The net revenue from all Mission Thrift Stores is devoted to the Joint Ministry of BFM Foundation (Canada) and Bible League Canada. Bible League Canada uses these funds to establish adult literacy programs, church planter training, and children’s ministry programs, as well as places Bibles in more than 40 countries around the world.

BFM Foundation (Canada) is currently seeking local Volunteer Board Members for the Mission Thrift Store in Saskatoon Saskatchewan, who understand and support the vision and purpose of our ministry, and are seeking a way to use their gifts and talents for God’s glory. Store Board Members are responsible for fulfilling governance responsibilities, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and bylaws, conducting board business effectively and efficiently, and holding BFM entities accountable to the Strategic Plan.

Required Commitment

  • Follower of Jesus Christ who wholeheartedly subscribes to the Mission Thrift Store Statement of Faith and Purpose.
  • In fulfilling your responsibilities, you will be required to pray with people who work or volunteer for Mission Thrift Stores. This may include, but is not limited to, opening in prayer at Mission Thrift Store Board and/or Staff Meetings, Mission Thrift Store events, and the BFM Foundation (Canada) Annual Conference.
  • A love for Bible-based ministry in Canada and around the world.
  • A cultural, economic, and environmental sensitivity of the local community.

Qualifications

  • A visionary with strategic planning skills.
  • A critical and logical thinker with the proven ability to make sound decisions.
  • Well-versed in board governance.
  • Prior professional experience in any of the following areas: Finance/Accounting/Bookkeeping, Fundraising, Marketing/Social Media, Human Resources, Business, and Administration.
  • Experience in faith-based, charitable, and non-profit sectors.
  • A strong understanding of risk management.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal).
  • Excellent leadership and teamwork skills, with the ability to foster and contribute to constructive conversations.
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • A high level of ethics, integrity, confidentiality, commitment, and accountability.

As dedicated ambassadors for the mission, vision, and values of Mission Thrift Store, the required time commitment for Volunteer Store Board Members is 5-10 hours per month, on average. The incumbents will be expected to prepare for and attend all regularly scheduled (monthly) board meetings (virtual or in-person), the Annual General Meeting (usually held in June), and committee meetings, as well as participate in any sub-committee work that may form, as needed.

If you are passionate about serving Mission Thrift Saskatoon by supporting the Store Manager’s efforts in the local community to raise funds for the Bible League of Canada, we look forward to hearing from you!

Please indicate your interest and best contact information by directly emailing Regional Manager, Kristine Reiniger, at [email protected], or visiting https://missionthriftstore.com/volunteer/ and filling out the form to apply.

BFM Foundation (Canada) welcomes and encourages applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available on request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
