About the Role


Job Summary Reporting to the Manager, Road and Bridge Operations, the Supervisor Road Operations is responsible for supervising the operation and maintenance of the regional road system in an assigned area to ensure an efficient operation and to meet council-approved levels of service.


Responsibilities


  • Direct and organize the performance of maintenance operations on all regional roads in an assigned patrol area.
  • Organizes field staff to accomplish summer and winter road maintenance tasks and programs.
  • Performs winter and summer road patrolling and directs field staff accordingly to meet minimum maintenance standards and operational service levels.
  • Procures supplies, goods and services in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
  • Ensures that vehicles and equipment are properly maintained, operated, and utilized.
  • Monitors expenditures, unit costs and productivity in bridge and road maintenance activities, to meet pre-established standards, utilizing the Region’s CMMS system and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Responds to emergencies, complaints and requests for service and takes necessary action.
  • Liaises with other government agencies, manufacturers and suppliers of operating and maintenance materials and services.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of specialized equipment with other Divisional Supervisors and Managers.
  • Secures utility locates and clearances for bridge and road maintenance activities.
  • Assesses and makes recommendations on winter maintenance operations and route design.
  • Makes recommendations for annual operations and maintenance budget for area of supervision.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned or required.
  • Position may participate in a weekly stand-by rotation and is subject to after-hour emergency call-ins.
  • Shift Information Currently scheduled days, 8 and 12 hour shifts.


Qualifications

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary diploma in Transportation or Construction Engineering is preferred.
  • Certified as a Road Supervisor with the Association of Ontario Road Supervisors.
  • Completion of any of the following education is preferred:
  • Good Roads courses – 1) T.J. Mahony Road School, 2) C.S. Anderson Road School, 3) Snow School, 4) Scott McKay Bituminous Technology and 5
