Mott MacDonald is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Traction Power and Electrification Engineer to contribute to the design, integration, and delivery of traction power and power delivery systems for rail and transit projects across Canada. This role is within our Rail Systems team and will contribute to the growth of our Canadian operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the Traction Power and Electrification Systems engineering aspects of rail and transit project delivery, including interfacing with electrical, civil, track, and systems design teams
  • Prepare conceptual design and provide input to budget development for traction power systems in project bids
  • Review and validate designs, specifications, installation plans, and testing procedures for traction power substations, power distribution, and electrification systems
  • Support project teams throughout the full lifecycle, from feasibility to commissioning
  • Provide expert technical input to clients during the development of system requirements and contract documentation
  • Interface with utility providers for power supply coordination and integration
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers and delivery partners for traction power equipment and solutions
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to ensure alignment with project goals and technical standards
  • Apply lessons learned and recommend corrective actions to improve project outcomes

Candidate Specification:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related discipline
  • At least 7 years of experience in the design, specification, installation, or maintenance of traction power system, overhead, or power rail systems (a strong background in passenger rail and transit projects is an asset)
  • Professional Engineering license in APEGA, EGBC, or PEO
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • traction power system
    • propulsion power system via linear induction motor and reaction rail
    • power rail systems including 3rd rail or 4th rail
    • stinger systems, maintenance shop power to LRV
  • Familiarity with Canadian and international standards for railway electrification and power systems
  • Experience with one or more of the following digital integration systems is an asset:
    • delivery of 3D models
    • drafting in AutoCAD or MicroStation
    • automation workflows
  • INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification is desirable
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and conduct technical discussions with clients and partners
  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles and lifecycle management (IEC/IEEE 15288)
  • Knowledge or familiarity of project management principles (related to PMBOK)
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English

The expected salary range for this position is from $99,000 - $134,000.
