Position Summary:
This is an excellent opportunity to take the next step as a Construction Specialty Lines Risk underwriter in today’s competitive marketplace. The position empowers the Construction Specialty Lines Risk Underwriter to deploy capital in accordance with Berkley’s underwriting appetite, continue to build and utilize your analytical and market-facing skills in a differentiated manner to create unique solutions for our broker and client base. This position primarily focuses on Mid-Market Canadian Construction and /or Architects & Engineers in all regions of the country.
We are seeking a talented candidate with proven underwriting and/or broking experience and passion in driving and scaling the following Construction Specialty Lines business:

This position primarily focuses on Mid-Market Canadian Construction and /or Architects & Engineers in all regions of the country.
We are seeking a talented candidate with proven underwriting and/or broking experience and passion in driving and scaling the following Construction Specialty Lines business:
- Contractor’s Annual Commercial General Liability Insurance (CGL)
- Contractor’s Annual Professional Liability Insurance (CE&O / CPPI)
- Architects & Engineers’ Annual Professional Liability Insurance (A&E)
- Project-Specific Professional Liability (PSPL for A&E and/or CPPI)
- Project-Specific Wrap Up Liability (WU)
What will your typical day look like?
- Ensure quality risk selection for new and renewal business submissions
- Determine applicant’s premium based on projected risk-level using statistical models to maximize underwriting profitability while adhering to underwriting authority letter
- Cultivate and maintain broker networks and relationships nationally
- Service all accounts including broker inquiries and bring complaints to underwriting manager. Handle complex policy maintenance items and other mid-term requests. Review endorsement requests and process necessary changes to the policy with approval
- Maintain corporate and regional underwriting objectives, including but not limited to rate adequacy, profit strategies, policy documentation and service standards
- Develop, contribute and adhere to short and long term underwriting strategic plans and objectives for regional underwriting offices ensuring consistency and integration with overall Berkley corporate strategy
- Embody and promote Berkley Canada’s collaborative and innovative culture to ensure professional success individually and for the team
- Performs other duties as assigned

Characteristics:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 5 years of Construction insurance underwriting experience, ideally Construction Professional Liability & Architects & Engineers related
- CIP Designation an asset
- Demonstrate initiative and works well independently with limited oversight by manager
- Team player with a willingness to think outside the box and creatively
- Effective time management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills

Additional Company Details
Berkley Canada offers a competitive compensation plan and a robust benefits package for full time, regular employees, including:
- Base Salary Range: $75,000 - $105,000
- Eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus
- Comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental coverage, life insurance, STD, LTD, critical illness insurance, EAP, professional development support, vacation, paid time off, and RRSP plan contributions
