Date: 4 hours ago
City: Vancouver, BC
Contract type: Full time

Our client is a long-established, privately held organization operating a multi-site, customer-focused business across retail, wholesale, distribution, logistics and related services. The company has grown significantly and built a strong reputation through operational excellence, long-term relationships and a commitment to continuous improvement. Its culture is highly collaborative, performance-oriented and grounded in servant leadership, with leaders expected to be accountable, approachable and engaged while fostering an environment focused on teamwork, accountability and results.

Reporting to the President and Chief Executive Officer, the Vice President, Finance leads the organization’s Finance and People & Culture functions and serves as a key member of the senior leadership team. This is a highly operational leadership role for a finance executive who takes an active interest in how the business runs and enjoys working directly with leaders and teams across the organization. Leading accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, data analysis, credit, cash flow, working capital and financial controls, the Vice President will provide timely and meaningful insight into performance. The role’s financial responsibilities also extend to a related property business that owns most of the organization’s operating locations, together with a small portfolio of other commercial properties.

Working closely with ownership and business leaders, the Vice President will strengthen visibility into sales, margins, expenses, inventory and profitability; enhance planning, reporting and decision support; and help drive greater consistency across financial processes, systems and controls. By engaging directly with the business and developing a firsthand understanding of operational challenges, the Vice President will help translate financial and operational insight into practical improvements in performance.

A key priority will be supporting the continued adoption and optimization of a recently implemented enterprise system, improving the quality and accessibility of financial and operational data, and helping business leaders leverage analytics to make better decisions. The successful candidate will also bring an active interest in artificial intelligence and a commitment to ongoing learning, working with leaders across the organization to identify practical applications that improve productivity, decision-making and business performance.

In addition to leading Finance, the Vice President will provide executive oversight to the People & Culture function. Working closely with the Senior Director, People & Culture, this leader will help ensure the organization’s talent, leadership and organizational capabilities support its strategic and operational priorities. The Vice President will strengthen a capable, service-oriented team across both functions while building the processes and discipline necessary to support future growth.

The ideal candidate is a finance leader with demonstrated success leading accounting and finance functions in a complex, customer-focused business. Experience in retail, wholesale distribution or another operationally complex, inventory-intensive environment would be highly relevant. Collaborative, humble, credible and highly hands-on, this servant leader will be equally comfortable rolling up their sleeves to work through complex issues as they are coaching and developing others. They will bring strong business judgment, intellectual curiosity and a practical problem-solving approach, with the ability to identify root causes, navigate ambiguity and translate analysis into action. Experience with ERP system optimization and enhanced reporting through data analytics will be highly valued.

Based in Metro Vancouver, this is an exceptional opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a respected privately held organization. Working closely with ownership, senior leadership and teams across the business, the successful candidate will build on a solid foundation and help position the company for continued success.
