Who is an Accounting Associate- General Accounting?

The Accounting Associate – General Accounting is responsible for a variety of accounting processes and general ledger reconciliation duties that contribute to the successful production and distribution of financial statements. These include assistance with the daily verification and administration of the Club payments processing, reconciliation of various general ledger accounts, bank deposits, preparation of monthly deferral and accrual entries, administration of financial statement distribution and department stationery supplies. This role also provides training and back-up support to peers.

What will you be doing?

  • Monitors daily Club cash over/short transactions and balances to identify errors and corresponds with Clubs and Home Office Departments to resolve outstanding variances.
  • Processes monthly journal entries in order to adjust the financial statements to reflect the monthly results according to accepted account principles and company policy.
  • Obtains updated system and banking reports required for accurate calculation of deferral and accrual entries for all clubs and departments.
  • Calculates and prepares journal entries.
  • Updates Management and impacted stakeholders on the status of month-end tasks and issues that may cause delays.
  • Completes assigned reconciliations and adjustments/corrections by the stated due dates and provide completed reconciliations with all supporting back up upon completion of each month for sign off and review by Manager–General Accounting.
  • Performs administrative duties required to keep the Accounting Department operating efficiently.
  • Distributes monthly financial statements to clubs and senior management to provide information regarding club performance and to support financial decisions.
  • Monitors supply of and orders replenishments for office supplies.
  • Uses and administers various equipment such as photocopiers, fax machines, and postage machine in order to complete job responsibilities or assist co-workers, including some minor maintenance and administration of these machines.
  • Organizes and maintains onsite and offsite document filing and storage for the Accounting and Finance departments, including tracking all documents, document retrieval, and re-filing of files and boxes.
  • Provides support for the tracking, ordering, set up and return of banking terminals.
  • Prepares daily corporate bank deposits from various Home Office Departments
  • Ensures received deposits are deposited in the bank on the required day and that the deposit is correct and complete.
  • Records the deposit transactions in the accounting system or notifies the necessary person(s).
  • Follows up with the necessary people to resolve discrepancies.
  • Performs various additional miscellaneous tasks to help the General Accounting team to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Provides back-up for and training to team members.
  • Identifies opportunities for process improvement.
  • Ensures complete and up-to-date documentation of policies and procedures.
  • Working out of Head Office 3 days a week

Do you have what it takes?

  • Post-Secondary degree or equivalent experience
  • Working towards degree or diploma in Accounting or Business Administration with accounting focus
  • 1-2 years’ customer service experience with retail cash point of sale experience
  • Proficiency in the use of computers for email and internet
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with basic use of accounting software
  • Ability to analyze information and make decisions based on available data
  • Ability to manage and effectively prioritize multiple commitments
