We are currently seeking an Assistant Branch Manager to support the Branch Manager in MPP operations, from our Calgary location, but remote will be considered. The largest city in Alberta, Calgary, is known for its rich culture, amazing food scene and Rocky Mountains which provide ideal spots for skiing, snowboarding and other outdoor recreation. Summary Of Responsibilities
- The Assistant Branch Manager will be responsible for performing or delegating the following duties:
- Leading and mentoring a high-performing team of Land Surveyors, Project Managers, and geomatics technical staff in collaboration with the Branch Manager.
- Determining required staffing levels based on budget and work expectations in collaboration with the Branch Manager.
- Participating in recruitment activities.
- Leading or participating in monthly meetings including presentations on safety, surveying, company initiatives, administrative, and training topics.
- Act as the primary point of contact for staff in the absence of the Branch Manager, addressing questions, concerns, and HR-related matters to ensure continuity of operations and team support
- Assisting with the development and review of company proposals.
- Participating in performance review discussions, when requested.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements, implementing strategies to enhance workflow efficiency and team productivity.
- Participating in discussions with the Branch Manager on work volumes.
- Providing support and direction on work priorities.
- Working with the Branch Manager to develop and provide input on the annual budget.
- The successful candidate will have:
- A degree or diploma in Geomatics from a recognized school or equivalent experience.
- An active professional designation in geomatics such as an ALS, CLS, BCLS, SLS, P.Eng.
- 7+ years of experience as a Geomatics Technician, Project Manager, or related position.
- Experience managing or supervising individuals.
- Knowledge in all aspects of land surveying.
- Leadership training and/or a willingness to further develop leadership skills through continuing professional development.
- Ability to delegate and distribute work appropriately.
- Keenness to work in a high-volume team environment.
- Good communication skills and a strong sense of professionalism.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong business writing skills including strong knowledge of utilizing Microsoft Word for creating proposals, reports, and technical documentation.
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of various software packages utilized in MPP operations.
- Supports and upholds company safety policies.
- Models behavior for other employees, including strong work ethic, consistent high-level performance within role, appropriate relations with other departments and offices, and adherence to company policies/direction.
- Fosters an innovative environment resulting in new and creative ideas of geomatics methodology.
- Customer service orientation.
- Ability to effectively supervise staff.
- Understands the role of professional land surveyors and engineers and the applicable professional legislation, regulations, and manuals.
- Understands professional liability and professional liability insurance.
