About The Role
The Associate Vice President (AVP), Data & Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance, Capital Markets & Wealth Technology is a key leader overseeing ATB Financial's data and AI governance strategy, including establishing and maintaining a robust framework. This role ensures responsible and ethical use of data and AI, compliance with regulatory requirements, and protection of sensitive information to drive business value, compliance, and innovation. The AVP leads the team responsible for implementing data governance policies, procedures, and controls, fostering a data-driven culture.
Additionally, this role focuses on enterprise data and technology operations, bridging business needs and technical capabilities, optimizing operational workflows, enhancing data quality, and driving data-driven decision-making. Initially, the focus is on maturing data & technology operations within Capital Markets and Wealth teams, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of supporting solutions. The AVP leads a team providing operational support, data analysis, and technical leadership for key initiatives within Capital Markets and Wealth Management.
The location for this role is flexible within Canada.

Accountabilities
Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement a comprehensive data and AI governance strategy aligned with business objectives and regulations.
- Lead the strategic direction and technology vision for end-to-end Capital Markets and Wealth Management, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and optimizing business outcomes.
- Lead and mentor a team of data governance and technology professionals. Mature enterprise operating model within ATB subsidiaries for Data Governance opportunities.
- Establish and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures (data quality, data privacy, data security).
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations (OSFI guidelines, PIPEDA, etc.). Develop and implement AI ethics guidelines and frameworks.
- Define and implement enterprise data quality metrics and monitoring framework processes. Establish data lineage and metadata management practices.
- Drive initiatives to improve data quality and consistency.
- Develop and implement AI governance frameworks (model risk management, ethical AI guidelines).
- Establish processes for responsible AI model development, deployment, and monitoring.
- Ensure consistent and representative automated decisions.
- Collaborate with Areas of Expertise (AOE’s), Strategic Support Units (SSU’s), and compliance teams on data and AI governance.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders on technology and data initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders (regulators, industry peers).
- Support regulatory and compliance programs related to data & AI from an ATB Technology perspective.
- Support a data and analytics governance council and provide executive sponsorship for governance policy creation and compliance.
- Ensure timely execution of independent audits.
- Enterprise Data Governance: Drive strategic planning coordination, champion change, trusted advisor, participate in governing bodies, industry leader.
- Capital Markets and Wealth Technology Support: Develop/oversee technology operating model, support process improvements, monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Capital Markets and Wealth Management Project Technology Leadership Management and Implementation: Oversee technology deliverables, lead/participate in system upgrades, new product implementations, and process improvements.
- Capital Markets and Wealth Management Data Management and Analysis: Lead data quality, integrity, and accessibility initiatives. Drive change, collaborate, conduct data analysis, ensure regulatory compliance.
- Define job roles, recruit, and manage (directly/indirectly) a team.
- Support development/maintenance of data information architecture.
- Develop, manage, and allocate annual team/operating/capital funds budget.
- Partner with Business and senior Client Experience and Technology (CXT) leaders, provide insights to the SVP Data and AI, collaborate across CXT Senior Leadership Team.
- Bachelor's/Master's degree in business administration, computer science, data science, information science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Legal/regulatory qualifications/experience desirable.
- 15+ years business experience (business management, legal, financial, or Information Technology (IT) management at executive level).
- Broad internal/vertical industry experience desired.
- 5+ years progressive leadership experience leading cross-functional teams and enterprise programs.
- Minimum 7-10 years operational and data support in financial services (Capital Markets and/or Wealth Management focus).
- Strong understanding of Capital Markets products, Wealth Management services, and related systems/processes.
- Experience integrating complex cross-corporate processes/information strategies and/or designing strategic metrics/scorecards.
- Strategy/management consulting experience desirable.
- Results-oriented and strategic thinker.
- Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills; able to influence senior levels. Demonstrated leadership; proven track record leading complex, multidisciplinary teams.
- Information strategy experience (strategic technology planning/execution, policy development/maintenance).
- Outstanding advanced analytical/statistical modeling skills. Strong project management skills. Ability to drive business/culture/technology change in a dynamic environment.
- Gravitas to develop/embed information/analytics governance framework. Excellent oral/written communication skills (explain technical/business concepts).
- Proven record of effective leadership (team/individual responsibilities, build high-performing teams, ethical work).
- Demonstrated knowledge of Financial Services business processes and information needs (risk/regulatory factors).
- Desired (but not essential): knowledge of data structure, information systems/tools, related software/data management, enterprise content management, record-keeping policies.
- Domain experience in multiple data/analytics delivery competencies (data science, data warehousing, Business Intelligence (BI), data governance, data architecture, data integration, data classification, data quality management, data security/privacy, Master Data Management (MDM), data standards, regulatory compliance, enterprise architecture frameworks).
