We are seeking a self-driven, news-savvy journalist with experience in writing German agency-style news to cover the European night shift for the Reuters German language service from Toronto. You will tell German readers about breaking international news as events unfold and cover a broad range of topics from politics to economics and financial markets. About The Role
As Breaking News Correspondent, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, you will:
- Write articles on international top stories and interesting news from around the world for a German audience, based on English copy from Reuters correspondents.
- Tailor news stories to add the context and explanations that German-language media clients need.
- Produce news stories in short and longer formats that adhere to the Reuters principles of delivering factual, unbiased, insightful news to meet customer needs and serve the public interest.
- Monitor German media, social media and press releases for breaking news in Germany, Austria and Switzerland during the European night. If necessary, investigate and report news from this region.
- Cooperate and communicate with colleagues in Germany, Reuters colleagues covering the nights for other domestic-language services as well as Reuters’ global network of journalists.
You will be a good fit for the role of Breaking News Correspondent, Germany, Austria, Switzerland if you have:
- Strong news judgment to prioritize news relevant for German language media clients
- Excellent writing and editing skills in German
- At least three years of experience at a news agency, or five years in general journalism
- Native-level German, fluent English
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Good communication and team player skills
- Some knowledge of economic indicators and financial markets is a plus
