Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. Qualicum School District also embraces many community organizations through various school programs. Job Function
An employee in this classification, as part of the School-Based Team, provides guidance, instructional support, direction, and intervention strategies for students at risk or experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, mental, and/or developmental disorders and/or difficulties.
Reporting To
School Principal with functional reporting to the District Social Worker or Designate.

Job Function
An employee in this classification, as part of the School-Based Team, provides guidance, instructional support, direction, and intervention strategies for students at risk or experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, mental, and/or developmental disorders and/or difficulties.
Reporting To
School Principal with functional reporting to the District Social Worker or Designate.
Illustrative Examples Of Work
- Provides guidance and social emotional supports to students, student groups, and families.
- Works with the School-Based team, or the District-Based team, in designing, implementing, and monitoring an intensive, flexible individual intervention for at-risk students and their families.
- Recognizes the characteristics of students at risk, intervenes in crisis situations and develops appropriate strategies in consultation with school-based team and/or district counsellor.
- May work with families in the areas of assessment, guidance, crisis intervention, and parenting skills, and implements appropriate strategies as required.
- Establishes direct lines of communication and maintains effective liaison with outside agencies, e.g., the Ministry of Children and Family Development, Probation and Police Services, and Youth Mental Health, as directed by school administrator or area counsellor.
- Acts as a member of the school and district Critical Incidence Teams as requested.
- Develops, coordinates and supervises all program activities as requested, e.g., group support, academics, recreation, field trips, work experience, and special projects.
- Assists in the delivery of educational goals and objectives, e.g., IEP’s, academics, recreation, field trips, work experience, and home visits.
- May implement specialized “student specific” programs for homebound students as outlined and supervised by teaching staff.
- May coordinate or assist with a school meals program.
- May drive students as required.
- Submits verbal and written reports as required.
- May support fundraising including researching and writing grant applications.
- May assist with the general supervision of students in the school and on school related activities.
- May provide support/programing beyond the hours of the school day.
- Performs other job-related duties.
- A Degree in Child and Youth Care.
- Completion of a supervised practicum.
- One-year similar or related experience including experience facilitating group support.
- Ability to support staff and parents in behaviour management skills.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work as a member of the educational team.
- Ability to work effectively with students and parents/guardians.
- Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate.
- Additional qualifications such as Food Safe may be required.
- Valid class 5 BC driver’s licence.
