Clinical Research Assistant, Zane Cohen Centre

Sinai Health is looking for a Clinical Research Assistant to support our Zane Cohen Centre.

The Clinical Research Assistant s an integral part of the dynamic and collaborative Hereditary GI Cancer Program at the Zane Cohen Centre, Mount Sinai Hospital. In this role, you will be expected to exercise sound judgment and attention to detail while supporting the day-to-day operations of the Familial Gastrointestinal Cancer Registry (FGICR). You will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care and research, applying excellent organizational and communication skills to maintain accurate medical and research records, support genetic counsellors, and contribute to ongoing cancer prevention and education efforts.

In This Role You Will

• Support Genetic Counsellors as a Genetic Counselling Assistant/Research Assistant
• Obtain updated medical records and screening reports
• Perform data entry and maintain the database
• Follow up with patients after receiving update forms to confirm family history and screening information
• Generate pathology reports from screening reports and enter them into the database
• Send medical record release forms to patients
• Contact genetics clinics and hospital medical record departments to request records
• Generate charts/records and abstract data for research studies
• Clean up data in the database as needed
• Follow up on outstanding saliva/blood samples
• Compose and prepare correspondence, newsletters, presentations, and additional materials as needed
• Assist with organizing patient educational events
• Recruit patients for research studies
• Share data with outside organizations as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned
  
  

Job Requirements

Mandatory

• Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a science or health-related field
  
  

Preferred

• Previous related experience or background in science or genetics
• Previous experience as a research assistant or research coordinator
• Previous administrative experience in a medical office is an asset
• Previous experience working with patients is an asset
  
  

Skills and knowledge

• Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Access
• Ability to communicate effectively (both oral and written) with clinicians and patients
• Comfortable handling sealed biological specimens
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
• Comfortable working with a diverse population and interacting with medical personnel
• Demonstrated ability to make decisions, exercise good judgment, discretion and initiative when dealing with confidential information and/or in responding to inquiries
• Flexibility in response to changing responsibilities and priorities
