Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario is one of the largest art museums in North America, attracting approximately one million visitors annually. The AGO Collection of more than 120,000 works of art ranges from cutting-edge contemporary art to significant works by Indigenous and Canadian artists and European masterpieces.

We are currently seeking a Dishwasher/Cleaner to join our Food & Beverage team. Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Culinary Operations Outlets, F&B the incumbent is responsible for completing checklists and tasks associated with each specific location. Functions could include: Cleans food and beverage areas as assigned including but not limited to: F&B kitchens and designated F&B Front of House areas. They will clean and sanitize all dishes, pots, equipment, work areas and storage areas. They will assist with other basic kitchen functions as assigned.

The rate of pay for this position is $21.14 - $27.91 per hour.

What is this position responsible for?

  • As directed on the daily checklist; Sweeps and mops floor areas, including under tables, beneath shelves, counters and stoves and into all corners including removing floor mats to clean floor. Cleans all work stations counters, surfaces, and sinks as directed on the assigned daily checklist
  • As directed by daily checklist and assigned location; Cleans and sanitizes all dishware, glassware, pots and cooking utensils, sets up, operates, maintains and cleans dishwashing station. Organizes, sorts, scrapes and rinses all dishes, utensils, glassware, pots and cooking utensils. Loads, operates and empties dishwasher. Properly stores all clean items. Tidies and maintains storage areas
  • As directed by weekly deep cleaning checklist; Participates in deep cleaning as scheduled that may include: dismantling grills and stove tops, washing and degreasing all gas jets, cleaning and burnishing stove tops, cleaning, degreasing and removing carbon build up from stove tops and oven interiors, Removing, empting and cleaning fat and garbage dripper drawers under grills, stoves and hot work station, empting and cleaning steam tables, tilt skillets, stock kettles, steamer, deep fryers, mixers and slicers, cleaning and sanitizing warming ovens, trolleys, and rolling racks.

What are we looking for?

  • Some directly related experience working in a commercial kitchen
  • Demonstrated familiarity with industrial cleaning equipment and procedures preferred
  • Ability to understand and execute written and verbal instructions
  • Complies with safety and sanitation codes, ensuring quality standards are met
  • Ability to read and comprehend WHMIS standards and symbols and SDS sheets
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding of food safety procedures
