You As An Underground Estimator

  • Analyze contract documents (drawings, specifications, contract deliverables, etc.) to prepare self perform cost estimates of projects for underground water, sewer and utility installation.
  • Assemble accurate, timely and well-organized estimates, including hard-bid, construction management and design-build
  • Prepare quantity take offs, including piping, appurtenances, fittings, and structures using Bluebeam Revu
  • Set-up new cost estimates using B2W Estimate
  • Develop schedule for accuracy and determine production rates; an understanding of logic, schedule delays and sequencing is an asset
  • Contact subcontractors and vendors for specific divisions to get external pricing. Knowledge of local vendors is crucial to ensure competitiveness.
  • Identify potential project risks, including safety, quality, traffic and weather.
  • Attend pretender meetings & site visits, where applicable
  • Work with proposal & operations teams in writing execution methodology, safety plans, Indigenous Engagement Strategies, and quality documentation.
  • Present Estimate to management for Review
  • Organize sub-contractor quotes when the bid is successful, re-writing binders and assisting the buy-out process
  • Monitor the success of a project, noting potential challenges and building relationships with sub-trades for future opportunities

Is this the right role for you?

  • 2+ years experience estimating underground utilities is required
  • Familiarity with B2W suite is an asset
  • Self-motivated, energetic and reliable with positive disposition
  • Good communicator with attention to detail and good documentation skills
