About Our Opportunity:

The Family Counsellor at Vancouver Family Preservation and Reunification provides services primarily to families that promote healthier family functioning and linkages to community resources. This position provides a variety of parenting education, support and counselling to children and families referred by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Work Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week with flexible work hours.

Salary: GS 13 Step 1 $37.89 per hour

Location: 4103 Fraser Street at East King Edward, Vancouver, BC V5V 4E9- with the possibility of working Hybrid environment; in-home work with families in Vancouver.

What do you need to succeed?

Education, Training, Experience

  • Master's degree in social work or clinical counselling, or equivalent education and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of child welfare policies and practices
  • Working knowledge of different parenting strategies and the ability to share these strategies with families
  • In-depth knowledge of child development and child abuse dynamics
  • An understanding of integrated case management/wrap-around service delivery
  • An understanding of child and adolescent stages of development
  • Superior crisis intervention skills
  • Ability to work with families that may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues
  • Ability to provide counselling in a variety of approaches that best fits client needs, either in the office, in the community or in their homes
  • Ability to support and encourage equity, diversity and social justice in the workplace
  • Knowledge of computer operating systems, i.e. Microsoft Office 365, Excel, SharePoint, MS Teams


Additional Requirements

  • Class 5 Driver’s License and personal vehicle
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when necessary
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check
