About The Role
On-site | Full-time
This position will be responsible for organic instrumental analysis, including GC/MS and GC/FID and working with client samples providing analysis for routine VOC Organic chemistry parameters.

About The Role
On-site | Full-time
This position will be responsible for organic instrumental analysis, including GC/MS and GC/FID and working with client samples providing analysis for routine VOC Organic chemistry parameters.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for preparation of standards, stocks and materials;
- Analyse samples for organic chemistry parameters, such as VOC, F1 and BTEX;
- Organise workload to meet turn-around-times (TAT) and hold times;
- Query a work list of samples, create work groups, data entry and data transfers to LIMS system;
- Perform detailed data review, interpretation, processing and entry;
- Ensure the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards;
- Adhere to strict QA/QC requirements;
- Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
- Calibration of analytical instruments;
- Perform routine maintenance and ensure that GC/MS and/or GC/FID instrumentation is in good working order;
- Assist in other sections of the lab as required;
- Carry out all required record-keeping & documentation;
- Communicate with the Client Services staff as required;
- Deliver accurate results to our clients in a timely manner;
- Monitor inventory of spare parts and consumables;
- Work in accordance with safety procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment;
- Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
- Other duties as assigned.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
- Intermediate experience with Excel and Microsoft Word;
- Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines;
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude and strong work ethic;
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Ability to work to deadlines;
- Accurate and efficient data entry skills;
- Completion of technical diploma or BSc degree in chemistry or related field;
- 2 or more years of extensive lab experience;
- Volatile or Semi-Volatile instrumentation or direct experience on alternate instrumentation an asset.
- Ability to lift up to 30lbs and carry for short distances;
- Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
- Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
- Ability to stand for a full shift;
- You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;
- Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
