Position Summary
Laboratory Technician, Genetics Program: Your goal in this position is to work with the laboratory technician and Technologists in the Cytogenetics Laboratory. In this role, you will have strong interpersonal, oral and written skills and will work effectively on an interdisciplinary team. As a technician, you will work under the supervision of the laboratory technologists. You demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to develop effective working relationships. You are detail oriented and are capable of following protocols. You are self-motivated and an effective team player with a high degree of independence, adaptability and professionalism within a demanding work environment. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

This is a Full Time Temporary position, 8 hour shifts, day shifts in the Laboratory Medicine, Cytogenetics department.We offer a highly competitive total compensation package which may include benefits, pension, vacation pay, or pay in lieu of benefits, when applicable. On a practical level, you will
- Receive and accession samples into the lab database (Shire)
- Set up, harvest samples and perform other tissue culture duties as assigned
- Prepare slides
- Prepare/replenish media, solutions and reagents
- Prepare supplies for autoclave
- Wash/maintain clean lab ware
- Unpack, store and stock supplies/reagents
- General lab and equipment cleanup
- Participate in quality and safety protocols
- Accurately maintain records
- Perform other duties as required in accordance with laboratory policies.
- Registered with or eligible for registration with a professional Association such as MLPAO or CMLTO
- Laboratory experience required (Cytogenetics experience an asset)
- Bilingualism in French/English an asset
