As a member of the Saskatoon-based compliance management team, the Lead, Licensing and Compliance leads and supports the development and execution of provincial and federal regulatory approval strategies to advance work at the Rook I Property in northern Saskatchewan. The role involves working across an interdisciplinary, multi-stakeholder team to secure and maintain regulatory approvals; maintain internal compliance management processes; lead internal engagement to foster NexGen’s culture of compliance management; and lead and support engagement with provincial and federal government agencies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting the development and execution of provincial and federal permitting strategies and work plans, including preparing written applications, management system documents, and technical reports.
  • Leading and supporting engagement with provincial and federal government agencies and regulatory authorities including written correspondence, virtual and in-person meetings, and technical workshops.
  • Establishing, implementing, and maintaining internal compliance management processes to ensure information required to support regulatory approvals is comprehensive and fit-for-purpose.
  • Leading internal engagement activities to foster NexGen’s culture of compliance management, including collaboration with various departments to ensure compliance obligations are understood and providing oversight to fulfill regulatory requirements (e.g., internal audits).
  • Providing subject matter expertise and technical support, analysis, and input during Project planning, development and design, and construction to review technical documents and regulatory submissions to support successful Project outcomes.
  • Leading and coordinating activities of various contractors and consultants in support of Project advancement and regulatory compliance, as required.
  • Presenting company and Project information in technical and non-technical settings to various Indigenous groups and stakeholders, including government, regulatory, community, and special interest groups, as required.
  • Evaluating proposed and pending changes to provincial and federal legislation applicable to the Project and developing strategies and work plans to ensure continued compliance.
  • Other duties as required.

Work Location:

This position would ideally be based in the Saskatoon office, with travel as required. For the right candidate, the position could be located elsewhere, with the understanding that regular trips to Saskatoon would be required.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree or technical diploma in natural sciences, engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in permitting, compliance or related roles in major construction projects or mining.
  • Working knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory requirements applicable to mining. industry. Familiarity with Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission requirements considered an asset.
  • Experience authoring and reviewing with technical and management system documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and coordinate in a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and detail-oriented.
  • Experience managing others.
  • Strong Emotional Intelligence.
