The Role
As a Software Development Engineer and Member of Technical Staff, you will provide technical leadership and strategic support across the AMD Radeon Open Ecosystem (ROCm) ecosystem. You will work collaboratively as a part of a core libraries engineering team building and maintaining artificial intelligence and machine learning libraries. You will work cross-functionally with a team of talented computer scientists, software developers, and applied mathematicians and facilitate the delivery of features on our product roadmaps.
The Person
To be successful in this role, you will be a hands-on software development engineer with strong technical skills and demonstrated success in shipping software in an Agile environment. You are passionate about leading through demonstration of technical excellence and managing key engineering initiatives. You are a strong communicator and can convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively across library teams to design, implement, validate, and deliver key software library capabilities, ensuring successful integration with GPU kernels into broader systems.
- Provide input to architecture, design, and documentation efforts as they arise across teams - Work closely with senior developers, architects, and stakeholders to maintain a long-term strategy and coordinate with subject matter experts in GPU technologies. Provide guidance and mentorship across integrated libraries and engineering teams on complex technical challenges.
- Collaborate with principal members of staff to develop the best technical designs and approaches that holistically consider constraints, performance, and roadmap commitments. Self-manage, execute, and report progress against project plans and delivery commitments.
- Demonstrate technical and team leadership by proactively identifying gaps and developing plans to remediate in collaboration with library owners and engineering principal colleagues.
- Extensive and hands-on experience with C++, with relevant applied experience using CUDA, HIP, OpenMP, MPI, or OpenCL for accelerated computing on CPUs and GPUs.
- Experience with and demonstrated contributions employing continuous improvement of the software lifecycle, including build robustness, regression and performance management, software deployment and orchestration management (Docker/Kubernetes) and various methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, Kanban.
- Experience with open-source software development including collaboration with community maintainers and submitting contributions.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle including requirements elicitation and analysis, scoping/estimation, coding standards, code reviews, version control, build processes, testing, and continuous integration.
- Experience working in the day-to-day activities of an engineering team using Agile methods.
- Knowledge of AI/ML Frameworks, Operators, Patterns, and Architectures. Familiarity with applied use of TensorFlow, PyTorch, and JAX.
- Familiarity with numerical methods and applications in technical and high performance computing.
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
