Packaging Shift Lead

Location: Winnipeg, Manitoba

Status: Full-time, Permanent

Reports to: Packaging & Sanitation Supervisor

Hours will be 5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Packaging and Sanitation Supervisor, the ideal candidate will be a motivated individual who displays strong attention to detail, has excellent organizational skills, and can maintain a positive, professional attitude in a fast-paced and changing work environment. The role of the Shift Lead is to handle the safety, quality, and productivity of the Packaging crew and ensure tasks are done to schedule as per the Plant Manager.

As a Packaging Shift Lead, you will oversee the packaging operations during your assigned shift, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety standards are met. You will supervise packaging team members, coordinate workflow, and troubleshoot any issues that arise to maintain smooth production.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain a professional and positive attitude in a fast paced and changing work environment

• Complete paperwork for batch record completion

• Scheduling shift rotations between team members

• Display problem-solving and decision-making abilities

• Ensure the safety and productivity of all employees assigned to designated shift

• Restore packaging production pace when required

• Escalate issues as they arise and maintain transparency with leadership

• Develop relationships with peers to schedule and coordinate activities

• Analyze and solve process related problems

• Actively contribute in continuous improvement efforts

• Perform related duties as assigned

• Lead and supervise packaging team members, providing guidance and direction to ensure tasks are completed effectively and on schedule.

• Monitor employee performance, conduct training as needed, and address any performance issues or concerns

• Coordinate packaging activities during the shift to meet packaging targets

• Schedule and prioritize packaging tasks based on production schedules and deadlines

• Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to identify and resolve any issues affecting product quality.

• Responsible to learn and understand D365 and power scan systems, check the pallets in the system and make adjustments as needed

•Print manufacturing pick list in D365, verifying that every pallet created has passed and entered the system correctly

• Other duties as required

Qualifications:

• Willingness to learn and take direction

• Ability to act as a production coach and leader for the packaging staff

• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with team members and other departments

• Basic Computer skills is a requirement to help with end of day adjustments in the system

• Proficiency in guiding and leading the packaging team as a leader

• Good communication skills; Problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure

• Excellent organizational and time management skills

• Critical eye for troubleshooting defects with a commitment to quality and safety

• Physically fit with an ability to meet physical demands including lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching, bending, walking, climbing, standing, and performing repetitive work

• Previous experience in being responsible for the packaging output of teams

• Previous background in manufacturing facility would be considered an asset

• Proven experience in packaging operations, with leadership or supervisory experience

• Strong knowledge of packaging processes, equipment, and materials.
