Job Description
RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).
Introduction
The Bateman Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral fellow with an interest in developing biological therapies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. The project is based on the neuroprotective activity of progranulin, particularly neurodegenerative disease associated with TDP-43 (Chitramuthu et al, Brain, 140, 2017, 3081–3104, Chitramuthu, PLoS ONE 12, 2017: e0174784, Doyle, PNAS, 118, 2021, e2022115118, Chitramuthu, Frontiers in Neuroscience, 15, 2022, 775391). The project will elucidate how the structure of progranulin relates to its activity both in neuroprotection and in neuromodulation, and how to leverage this information to develop novel therapeutic approaches to neurodegenerative diseases. It is a collaborative project with laboratories in University of Prince Edward Island and a Canadian company involved in drug development for neurodegenerative diseases. The studies will involve the genetic construction and production of modified forms of progranulin and their evaluation as leads towards new biological therapies. Knowledge of DNA manipulation and cell culture is essential.
