Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Purchasing and Planning Intern position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.
Job Summary
Supports the purchasing department especially with regards to MRO purchases, equipment purchases, facility improvements and other in sundry purchases. Will provide support to equipment operations and maintenance coordinator. Integrates the links between purchasing, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Job Qualifications
REQUIRED: High School Diploma or General Educational Development diploma (GED). Two years or more of experience in a Purchasing, Materials, or Operations environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent communication skills.
PREFERRED: Familiarity with Google Suite.

Primary Responsibilities
- After receiving specifications, purchases equipment, machine parts/materials and/or services from established vendors.
- Supports expedites, new item setup, obtaining quotes, MRO purchasing, entering PO confirmations, and assisting in keeping PO details updated in the Business System.
- Supports purchasing on special projects as required.
- Evaluates supplier delivery and quality performance.
- Performs negotiations and develops documented contracts with suppliers.
- Prioritizes and expedites open orders and late orders.
- Assists the Accounting department with resolving invoicing problems.
- Coordinates information with the Receiving department to resolve any discrepancies with shipment received from suppliers.
- Arranges and processes returns to suppliers of incorrect or defective parts complying with the nonconformity procedure.
- Participates individually or within a team environment on special projects approved or assigned by the Purchasing Manager.
- Performs work according to Fike Corporation policies, procedures, goals and according to the direction of the Purchasing Manager.
- Assists with work order printing and completion as well as packing slip printing.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
