Job Description

The SAR 7705 lab team is required to build, maintain and monitor testbed equipment used by the SAR Test team members to verify the conformance of features and their functionality implemented by SAR Software Engineering team against requirements specifications laid out by Product Management.

Responsibilities include testbed assembly; managing upgrades and repairs; recovering the test equipment after a planned or unplanned power outage; performing some basic scripting for regression support; developing, modifying, and executing test plans and analysing test results to ensure proper functionality.

How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn

  • Plan, build and configure cabling and networking for testbeds and lab infrastructure.
  • Build custom PCs, install Ubuntu, and create Linux servers.
  • Maintain proper storage of equipment and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection equipment
  • Configure terminal servers (eg: Xyplex, Lantronix) and IP controlled Power Bars (eg: APC, Tripp Lite)
  • Monitor the network and equipment, find problems and fix them or report anomalies to the supervising engineers
  • Keep benches, cabling, etc. neat and clean, and find/implement ways to improve the lab.
  • Maintain a web page with troubleshooting tips, and procedures.
  • Shutdown equipment for planned power outage and bring equipment back after power is recovered (planned or unplanned)

Key Skills And Experience

  • A Diploma in Computer Systems, Computer Networking, Computer Engineering or Networking or equivalent
  • Ability to learn quickly and to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment
  • Experience with Linux operating systems, installing servers, creating users, and user groups and permissions is an asset, experience with Windows Servers

It would be nice if you also had:

  • Familiarity with networking test tools (IXIA, Spirent, Wireshark, TFTP, FTP, etc.)
  • Ability to work well independently but also as part of a team
  • Knowledge and experience of AC and DC power systems is an asset
  • Experience and knowledge of scripting languages such as TCL, Python, Perl, bash shells, Expect are an asset as well as GIT
