Research And Development Technician

The R&D Technician is responsible for preparing formulations and samples and aiding R&D Food Scientists. You'll spend your days conducting standard tests on product samples to ensure compliance with specifications, performing calibrations on analytical equipment, and maintain R&D lab and work environment. Providing nutrition facts and ingredient declarations, and conducting shelf-life testing is also a part of this fun gig.
Assists in keeping Nature's Path on the leading edge of new product development:
- Performs calibrations, and/or verifications to ensure accuracy of analytical equipment.
- Assist preparing formulations and samples and aids R&D Food Scientists.
- Revises formulas in Genesis as required.
- Conducts standard tests on product samples to ensure compliance with specifications such as, moisture, water activity, texture analysis, & viscosity measurements.
- Researches new and current raw materials and applications.
Ensures operational standards for quality, cost, food safety, and sustainability:
- Organizes and conducts shelf-life testing, records and communicates results.
- Maintains a clean and orderly work environment in the R&D lab as well with tools and equipment used.
- Manages the inventory of raw materials and supplies in the R&D lab.
- Manages and coordinates sample request, including ingredients and finished products.
- Interacts with Regulatory, Quality and Supply Chain by providing updated information as needed.
- Provides nutrition facts, ingredient declaration, package weight, serving size, and other relevant packaging information.
- Develop familiarity with requirements of USDA, FDA and Health Canada.
- Develop understanding of Organic requirements, and sustainability principles.
- Collaborates in the creation of finished goods specifications of new products.
Assists in the assurance of customer satisfaction with quality, consistent products:
- Properly packages and ships product samples to customers.
- Obtains product samples as required.
Experience
- Bachelor degree in Food Science, or related degree, with relevant food science work experience.
- Experience or training in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Quality Assurance.
- Experience in a product development lab or quality assurance function in the food industry.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including Excel.
Notes
- This is a hybrid role (3 days in the lab) based out of our HQ in Richmond BC.
- The base salary range is between $56,000 - $80,000 + a 10% yearly bonus.
