This is a fully funded, 7-week training program offered by Providence Health Care. Upon successful completion, you’ll move into a regular full-time position in our GI Endoscopy Unit. As a Staff Nurse, you'll be at the forefront of patient care, working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to ensure patients/residents receive comprehensive support. Your responsibilities will include
- Assess patients' physical, social, spiritual, and psychological needs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans.
- Incorporate teaching into care plans to educate patients and families.
- Make referrals to resources as needed.
- Support fellow healthcare professionals.
- Operate within the framework of Providence Health Care's mission, vision, and values.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives.
- Minimum one-years’ experience in medicine or surgical nursing.
- Previous perioperative, emergency, or catheterization lab experience preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures appropriate for the area of service.
- Ability to work as a member in an interdisciplinary team.
- Ability to apply decision-making and analytical skills.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Ability to role model conflict resolution strategies.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to prioritize and organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Ability to teach and identify patient learning needs.
- Ability to lead patient/family group sessions.
- Ability to provide clinical direction.
- State-of-the-art facilities The new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus will be the most innovative approach to the delivery of integrated care in B.C. and Canada, designed to appropriately address the future health needs of patients, families and our communities. From hospital care to primary and community health solutions, the new St. Paul’s Hospital and health campus will continue to lead innovations in care, research, and teaching. The new St. Paul’s Hospital is expected to open in 2027.

- Gather and analyze patient information (charts, observations, interviews) to develop, implement and revise individualized, evidence‑based care plans with patients and families
- Provide hands‑on nursing interventions (including crisis and life‑threatening care), delegate tasks to support staff, and guide the multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, effective treatments
- Track patient progress, evaluate outcomes against goals, adjust care plans as needed, and communicate changes or concerns promptly to the team and family
- Identify and meet learning needs of patients, families and staff through one‑on‑one and group teaching; mentor new nurses and students and model best‑practice guidelines
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in line with professional standards and PHC policies; ensure critical updates are shared with patients, families and colleagues
- Coordinate discharge plans by connecting patients and families with community resources, follow‑up services and support agencies
- Help develop and evaluate policies, participate in research and quality‑improvement activities, uphold infection‑control and safety procedures, and advocate for patient dignity, respect and autonomy
